Kylian Mbappe’s recent comments about his admiration for AC Milan have been unsurprising, but have still sent shockwaves through the football world, fueling speculation about a potential transfer in the future.
The French striker, who currently plays for Paris Saint-Germain, made the comments at the 2023 FIFA Best Awards. He was asked by a fan if he would ever play in Italy, and replied, jokingly:
If I come to Italy, it’s only for Milan.
Mbappe’s connection to the Rossoneri dates back to his childhood, as he spent a lot of time with an Italian nanny whose family were all AC Milan fans.
In addition, he is close friends with Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan and has expressed his appreciation for the club in the past.
The prospect of the young star joining AC Milan is certainly an exciting one for fans of the Italian giants, who currently sit in third place in Serie A.
Mbappe’s partnership with fellow forward Raphael Leao could be formidable, with both players possessing excellent technical abilities and pace that could cause problems for any opposing defences.
However, as transfer journalist Gianluca Di Marzio pointed out, there is currently no negotiation between Milan and Mbappe, and the move would be financially unfeasible for the club.
Obviously there is no negotiation of any kind, but this appreciation fills one with pride and brings a smile to one’s face.
Moreover, Mbappe is currently under contract with PSG until 2025, and the French club has shown no indication that they are willing to let him go. Real Madrid, who have long been linked with the 24-year-old, may also make an inevitable move to sign him in the future.
Mbappe’s recent comments about his affinity for AC Milan have rekindled the passion in the hearts of Milanese fans, who long for the days when the club attracted the biggest names in football.
Despite the uncertainty surrounding Mbappe’s potential move to Milan, his words have given hope to supporters who dream of seeing the Rossoneri reclaim their place among the elite of European football.
Some were more realistic and even pessimistic about the idea, saying that even if the entirety of Serie A wanted to sign Mbappe, they couldn’t.
Harsh, but probably true.
Mbappe’s love for AC Milan has also brought back the hilarious Dida-Mbappe jokes in the foray.
A very popular theory talks about the likelihood of Dida, a former Brazilian footballer, being Mbappe’s father.
Dida travelled to France in 1998 and Mbappe was born in 1998, and well…then there is the resemblance. Add to that the fact that Dida was AC Milan’s goalkeeper, and a lot of theories are born.

Of course, this theory isn’t true, as there were only 5 months between the World Cup and Mbappe’s birth, but it still is funny.
Before this unlikely and perhaps impossible transfer happens, however, AC Milan have a task at hand they would rather direct their attention towards.
In the next 10 days, they play Florentina and the second-leg fixture against Tottenham in the UCL. With a marginal 1-0 lead, they would need their current forwards to show up and prove why Mbappe is not needed.
