PSG defender Achraf Hakimi is widely regarded as one of the best right-backs in world football.
He solidified himself as one during the 2022 Qatar World Cup, playing a major role in helping Morocco make it all the way to the semi-finals.
Hakimi showcased his defensive sturdiness with some brilliant performances to help his nation become the first African team to reach the World Cup final four.
He’s also been performing really well for PSG over the last few years and has settled himself and his family in France.
Hakimi rewarded for his season
Thanks to his impressive performances over the course of 2022, Hakimi earned a place in the FIFA Pro World XI that was announced on Monday. He was among the three PSG stars in the XI alongside teammates Kylian Mbappe and Lionel Messi.
The 24-year-old defender was voted into the FIFPRO XI and placed alongside Virgil van Dijk and Joao Cancelo in a three-man backline. This validated a brilliant 2022 for the Morrocan defender, giving him the rewards which he deserved for his hard work across the last year or so.
But what was supposed to be a night of celebration for the Hakimi household turned out to be a nightmare. Just after he was named as part of the FIFA World XI lineup, the Moroccan defender was accused of rape by a French woman.
Hakimi accused of rape after FIFPRO nomination
As per Le Parisien, an unnamed 24-year-old Parisian woman residing in made a statement of rape to the police station of Nogent-sur-Marne in the region of Val-de-Marne in Paris. While the woman did not want to file an official complaint, she made the accusation that Hakimi had sexually assaulted her.
It has been claimed that Hakimi allegedly started to talk with the woman on Instagram in January. With the 24-year-old defender’s wife and children vacationing in Dubai, Achraf asked the woman to visit his home where the alleged incident took place.
As per the French outlet, Hakimi tried to force himself upon the 24-year-old woman. He allegedly kissed her and tried lifting her clothes despite her protests. The young woman allegedly ended up freeing herself from the PSG man by kicking him away, before asking a friend to pick her up from the location.
Despite the woman not wanting to press charges or file a complaint on the matter, the French police have nonetheless opened an investigation against Hakimi and will now look into the shocking accusations themselves.
Neither the Moroccan defender nor PSG have made a comment on these accusations so far, as they’re likely to work with the police on the investigation procedure. These allegations have surprised many because Hakimi normally comes off as a really humble, loveable family man.
Hakimi – The Ultimate Family Man
To just term Hakimi as a Family Man would probably be underselling his dedication to his loved ones. He had a tough childhood, going through various struggles being part of a Migrant family living in Spain.
Hakimi has been adamant that everything he does is for his family, telling in an interview with GQ Magazine: “We come from a modest family that struggled to earn a living. Today, I fight for them every day. They sacrificed themselves for me to succeed.”
In fact, some fans find it really difficult to believe these allegations because Hakimi is known to really adore his wife and children. Even a Bundesliga journalist close to him during his time at Borussia Dortmund testifies to his dedication towards being a loyal family man.
He proved that by enjoying the majority of his success at the World Cup with his sweet mother, often celebrating wins with her and even pulling off heartwarming dance moves.
Hakimi attends FIFA ceremony amid rape allegations
Hakimi actually did attend the FIFA Best Awards show but did not seem in the best of moods because of the accusations set against him.
He also did not speak on the situation at all and will let the investigators do their jobs. PSG will probably hope that his situation is resolved quickly, as they’d like to avoid such difficult situations colliding with their end-of-season run as they aim to finish the campaign with a bang.
