“The results are not good enough for Chelsea. I take full responsibility for those results.
“I thought the players gave everything, it’s just that the goal changes the complexion of the game and that made it difficult for us.
“If results aren’t good enough, which they aren’t at the moment, you can’t rely on support forever.”
These were the words of perhaps soon-to-be-former Chelsea manager Graham Potter after his side lost to local rivals Tottenham 2-0.
Chelsea’s struggles have been well documented and well discussed this season and go back to pre-Potter days.
But ever since the new manager came in, Chelsea has only regressed. And there have also been reports of dressing room unrest and players blaming each other.
The Blues last won a game against Crystal Palace on 15th Jan, with a 1-0 score line.
Since then, they have had two goalless draws, one 1-goal draw, two 1-0 losses and one 2-0 loss. All of this in February. Only one goal in February. For a team with European ambitions.
That is not to say that the team is not playing well. Their Champions League game against Borussia Dortmund, for example, was a good game and had everything but a goal. And they only conceded to a Karim Adeyemi wondergoal.
Given the splurge in the winter window, there was a lot more expected for this side and rival fans are absolutely enjoying this downturn at the moment.
And while social media needs no extra reason to make fun of the struggling club, they were anyway given one, and via an unlikely source.
Ted Lasso, the two-time Emmy-winning show on Apple TV, released a trailed for their upcoming season, their third instalment.
While all the usual characters and the club in focus, Richmond AFC, make an appearance, there was also a surprise inclusion of Chelsea.
In the video, Stamford Bridge is shown where a match between Richmond and Chelsea is being played, and the Blues are seen scoring. Watch the video below at the 0:30 mark.
The comedy show has been a runaway success and now, has provided comedy in a different way for Football Twitter.
Given the lack of goals in real life, Twitter was quick to point out that at least the club is scoring in reel life.
One user even pointed out that owner Todd Boehly was so desperate for his side to score, he used his Hollywood connections to make it happen, one way or another.
Well, at least this goal will give Chelsea fans another contender for the “Goal of the month” award for February, because as things stand, Joao Felix is the guaranteed winner, being the only one who netted.
Season 3 of the show is set to drop on March 15 and you can bet that most will finish watching it on the day itself.
