The chain of jersey leaks continues as the ever-reliable Footy Headlines has come up with a brand new kit design rumor. Ahead of the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023, reports have dropped hints about the away kits the US National Team will be sporting in the year 2023.
The same source that had previously reported leaks of USMNT’s home kit this season, which offered splash paint dots all over the shirt, and a touch of gold in the Nike logo and the crest.
With USWNT’s latest special World Cup home kit design already being leaked out earlier, it was rumored that the men’s team will continue to wear the old kits this year.
It was previously reported that the USWNT was slated to get one exclusive kit for the World Cup in Australia and New Zealand. This translated to assumptions about the previous away kit staying intact.
However, that doesn’t seem to be the case anymore, as the latest leaks now suggest a new away kit design for the USA team to be on the horizon.
Going by the leaks, the away shirt seems to have a base of blue with a couple of triangular red stripes around the collar and a zig-zag pattern around the sleeve cuffs. The dotted crest (with four stars for the women’s team) could also be seen in red with a blue base.
Learning from the criticism surrounding the blandness of their previous kits in the World Cup, Nike has tried to experiment this time. The deep blue wavy graphics covering the entire shirt provide a certain richness to the kit, making it look much more detailed than the previous iterations of them.
Despite the “experiments” though, Nike seems to have lost the plot yet again. The blooming red on the collars and the sleeves just doesn’t go with the bright blue basing the top. The yoke design around the neckline looks out of place, and the patterns at the end of the sleeves do not seem to partner with each other at all.
Fans do not appear to be very pleased with the leaked concept and haven’t held themselves back in expressing their displeasure about the uninspired design on the internet. With most of the early reviews finding the strip to be a pain in the eye, it appears to be Nike’s time to get slandered yet again. Some fans even demanded that the designer be fired. Damn!
The biggest disappointment among everything is the fact that USMNT’s away kit at the FIFA World Cup in Qatar was an actual thing of beauty. In contrast to this absolute mess of a color combination and lackluster detailing, the team had sported a beautiful blue and black tie-dye patterned strip that had the crest at the center.
Comparisons of this leaked design are also being made to OL Reign’s special “purpose” gear released in 2023 as fans cannot help but notice the similarities between the two. The strips of the Seattle-based club, however, do not illustrate a color combination this ugly.
With CONCACAF Nations League and international friendlies on the horizon, it remains to be officially seen what away gear will the USMNT be sporting this year.
