Julian Nagelsmann has had a crazy few days – which have seen him get sacked as Bayern Munich’s manager and also break up with his girlfriend. To add to it, Tottenham Hotspur – who are looking to potentially replace Antonio Conte after his crazy outburst – are now aiming to hold talks with the German over potentially taking over the club.
Nagelsmann was actually having a little holiday during the international break when things completely turned upside down for him.
He was reportedly skiing in Austria when Bayern decided to sack him – citing his inability to improve the squad and falling behind Borussia Dortmund in the Bundesliga table as reasons behind it.
The 35-year-old manager had only guided Bayern Munich to the Champions League quarter-finals earlier in March, defeating a star-studded PSG side in doing so too.
However, despite his dominance in Europe, Nagelsmann’s stutters in the league forced Bayern to make a rare decision to sack their manager mid-way into the season. But things only got worse from there in his personal life too.
Who is Lena Wurzenberger and why did her relationship with Nagelsmann cause issues?
The 37-year-old manager has quite a ‘flashy’ lifestyle and has often been mocked for his quirky fashion sense and trying to make himself some kind of a fashion icon during games.
He was reportedly mocked by Bayern’s upper-management people as well as some players for trying to show off too much.
Nagelsmann has also made some personal life decisions that raised doubts within Bayern. The 37-year-old ended his marriage with his wife of five years, Verena, earlier this year.
The couple announced their separation earlier this year and the reason behind this caused controversy.
The German manager started dating Lena Wurzenberger last year. The girl in question was a Bayern Munich reporter for one of their biggest news outlets, BILD.
The two had met in 2022 and Wurzenberger had even conducted an interview with Nagelsmann in May 2022 after he was revealed as Bayern manager.
The fact that he dated a reporter that wrote insider stuff on Bayern and often criticized players did not go down that well at Bayern.
But his relationship with an insider reportedly caused a lack of trust within the squad, with players afraid anything they confide in the gaffer could end up in the national newspaper.
Well, it appears that their relationship didn’t tough it out against time. Nagelsmann had reportedly gone on ski-ing vacation with Wurzenberger during the break.
But after his sacking, the two have now decided to break up. Moreover, Wurzenberger has also left her role as a journalist at Bild too.
Tottenham catch strays amid Nagelsmann’s agony
Despite seeing him reeling from being sacked as Bayern manager, Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly already decided to contact Nagelsmann and offer him a chance to manage in the Premier League and take over their club from Antonio Conte.
Nagelsmann reportedly once owned a Spurs shirt and the club believes his modern tactics can help them succeed. Spurs have become the center of a lot of mockeries for trying to snap up the German gaffer immediately after his sacking from Bayern.
Some can’t believe the audacity of the Tottenham bosses to try contacting Nagelsmann within 24 hours of losing a high-profile job.
It’s still unknown whether the German manager will accept Spurs’ offer or return to management anytime soon, but one can probably sympathize with him if he takes some time off to recover from his traumatic experiences – both in his personal and professional space – over the last few days.
