With the end of the 2022/23 season fast approaching, the end-of-season award categories are also approaching and that includes the Women’s Football Awards.
The popularity of the Women’s Football scene keeps increasing with every passing season and the players are also gearing up for the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup – that kick-starts in July.
Before that, however, the domestic season needs to end. In England, an award show has been created to celebrity some of the best in the Women’s Football Scene.
The Women’s Football Awards is a ceremony that is held every year. It is a fan-votes-based awards show, where the winners are decided by the most amount of votes a player can get.
The Awards show not only has categories for the best women’s players but also celebrates those individuals or organizations that help promote the Women’s Football scene. As a result, they’ve also created a new category to celebrate some male footballers as well.
What is the Male Ally of the Year award?
The Women’s Football Awards has announced an award for some of the male footballers who have helped elevate Women’s Football or helped promote it positively over the last year.
Some of the Premier League’s best players have been nominated for this award, with the list dominated by English players.
England national team stars like Declan Rice, Kieran Trippier, Harry Maguire, and Harry Kane have all been nominated. Joao Cancelo and David de Gea are the only non-Enlgish footballer nominated for this award.
Kane, for example, has been extremely supportive of the England national women’s team and kept sending them motivational messages through the Women’s Euros last year.
De Gea is a big supporter of the Manchester United Women’s Team and is occasionally spotted attending their games alongside Maguire.
All of the nominated individuals have played some part in promoting the Women’s football scene in England.
Fans furious over Male Ally of the Year category
The Women’s Football Awards have gotten some bad publicity for their decision to create this kind of category for their latest awards show.
Fans are annoyed at how Male Footballers are being celebrated for doing the bare minimum in just promoting the Women’s Football scene and trying to bring more fans to watch it.
The nominated footballers have been criticized for not fighting for equal pay rates for both male and female footballers in England. Many claimed that Ian Wright should be the downright winner.
ok but what have they actually DONE for women’s football?

Someone like Ian Wright should be on this
Most of the Women’s Football supporters are actually confused over exactly what these footballers have done to deserve their own award category in a show about female footballers.
The female fans are annoyed over why the male footballers keep getting some of the limelight for a show that is originally dedicated just to women’s football.
There are many award shows that are strictly dedicated to the Men’s game and there are no such categories created for their female counterparts either.
The Women’s Football Awards show is set to take place on May 25, when the domestic season in England will come to an end. However, it remains to be seen if the male footballers decide to turn up after attracting stark criticism for their involvement in this weird category.
