The Record-Breaking Wages Luke Shaw Rakes in Per Week at Man United

Luke Shaw, Manchester United

Manchester United left-back Luke Shaw has penned a new deal with the Red Devils that sees ties the England international down to the club for at least until 2027.

Shaw, who is currently out injured, joined the red side of Manchester in the summer of 2014. A 30 million move that saw the then 18-year-old change allegiances from childhood club Southampton to Premier League giants Man United, Shaw became the most expensive teenager in the history of football at the time. He’s been a mainstay in the United outfit ever since.

Starting firmly at Manchester, Luke’s career dwindled when he suffered a career-threatening injury in a UEFA Champions League fixture against PSV Eindhoven.

The double fracture of the limb saw the left back remain out of action for almost a year before making his return to the squad under new manager Jose Mourinho.

Tough times awaited the former Southampton ace as Mourinho often preferred the likes of Daley Blind, Matteo Darmian, and Marcos Rojo over Shaw.

It wasn’t until the arrival of club legend Ole Gunner Solskjaer at the helm that saw Shaw start to gain some momentum. After a decent year and a half under the new gaffer, Shaw arguably hit his peak in the 2020/21 season which saw him being included in the PFA Premier League Team of the Season for that year. An outstanding Euro 2020 followed that saw the United man score in the final.

However, a plunge in the form under manager Ralf Rangnick and the arrivals of new left-backs in the likes of Alex Telles and Tyrell Malacia made the fans question his continuity at the club.

The doubts were put to rest this season though when the new management of Erik Ten Hag saw a rejuvenated Luke Shaw, who’s back to being one of the best left-backs in the Premier League.

Rewarding his remarkable outings both as a left back and a left center back, Shaw was proposed a brand new contract that runs until 2027, and the England international was glad to accept the offer as he said :

Nine years ago, I signed for this amazing club, and I’m thrilled to be extending my stay.”I’ve grown immensely since coming to Manchester all those years ago, both as a person and as a player; I know what is needed to succeed at a club like this.

Additionally, his current contract that was due at the end of the 2023/24 season saw the Kingston upon Thames born earn €150,000, wages that made him one of the highest-paid United players.

Manchester United’s obsession with offering ridiculous wages was once again on display, as the new contract suggests Luke Shaw will be pocketing a whopping €200,000 per week. That is more than what Andy Robertson and Ben Chilwell earn, making Shaw the highest-paid left-back in the Premier League.

The new deal has also seen Shaw become the fourth highest-paid defender in the English top flight, eclipsing teammate Harry Maguire among others. Only Raphael Varane, Jon Stones, and Virgil van Dijk are paid more than the 27-year-old.

Interestingly, the new contract sees no additional year as a clause. Reports imply that this embarks on the new direction the United board is headed towards.
