Why the Handshake Between Antony and Diogo Dalot is More Than Just a Celebration

Antony, Diogo Dalot, Manchester United

Manchester United enjoyed a good evening at the City Ground, as they picked up a 2-0 win against Nottingham Forest.

The Red Devils delivered a clinical performance and managed the game exceptionally well, despite dealing with injuries to key personnel.

The visitors started the game off strongly, with the first big chance falling the way of Jadon Sancho in the 18th minute.

They eventually earned the advantage through Antony, which came after a lovely bit of play resulting in a strike from Anthony Martial.

Martial’s shot was palmed away by Keylor Navas, only to fall in the path of the Brazilian winger who tapped the ball home and gave United the lead.

The 23-year-old also played a direct role in the Red Devil’s second goal, giving fans another glimpse of what the £85m summer signing is all about.

The Brazil International embarked on a driving run from the right-hand side, skipping past a couple of challenges on his way to the box.

Showing excellent awareness, he then deployed a perfectly-weighted pass for fullback Diogo Dalot, who calmly slotted the ball into the back of the net.

The goal at Forest was Dalot’s first in the Premier League, and his 3rd overall as a United player.

Naturally, the 24-year-old was an ecstatic figure, as evidenced by the many celebrations he executed following the goal.

The Portugal International started with a bit of impassioned pointing, followed it up with some gesturing, and even tapped his nerve because why not. But the celebration that caught the eyes of fans online came shortly after.

The fullback was joined by assist-giver Antony, and the duo simply shook hands while giving each other a look of recognition.

As far as duo celebrations go, this is a fairly standard one, but it gets full points from us since it’s one baller acknowledging another.

Following the game, Dalot was asked about the meaning behind the celebration, to which the 24-year-old responded: ‘It is our little thing’.

Little or not, it certainly made a splash with fans online, who were already looking forward to the encore.

The celebration represents the budding friendship between the 2 right-sided players.

Dalot’s style of play compliments Antony’s, and with a bit of work, the pair have the potential to be quite lethal for United.

The duo already seem to get along off the pitch, which will certainly aid their chemistry on it.

With all 3 points at Forest, United sits in 3rd place on the table, a gap of 3 points separating them from 4th placed Newcastle United.

Barring a colossal capitulation, the Red Devils are well on track to return to the Champions League next season.
