WIth records and goalkeepers left shattered in his wake, Erling Haaland continues to rip apart the Premier League.
The Norwegian is easily the transfer success story of the season, and he is already worth whatever Manchester City paid on top of his reported £51 million fee.
The boyhood Citizen has scored 49 goals across all competitions in just 42 games, with 33 of those coming in the Premier League.
His insane goal-scoring streak has already broken the record for most goals scored in a PL season, previously held by Mohamed Salah, who scored 32.
The 22-year-old’s sights will likely be set on breaking the all-time PL era record (34) shared by co-holders Andrew Cole and Alan Shearer.
Also on Haaland’s checklist will be clinching the league title with City, and the side took a massive step towards achieving that goal through their recent win against league leaders Arsenal.
Contested at the Etihad, the match saw City run riot and complete a dominant 4-1 victory over the Gunners.
As expected, Haaland proved to be decisive yet again, the striker linked up wonderfully with Kevin De Bryune on multiple occasions, including the opening goal scored by the Belgian.
He also made sure to get his goal during the final moments of the game, capping an excellent City performance and a personal highlight for the Norwegian.
Aside from being a showcase of his talents, the game also displayed Haaland’s camaraderie with his fellow teammates, primarily through a wholesome moment featuring the striker and City centre-back John Stones.
It occurred near the end of the first half, right after Stones extended City’s lead to 2 goals through a strong header.
To celebrate the centre-back’s efforts, the home support broke into a chorus of ‘Johnny, Johnny Stones’, the infectiously catchy chant devised for England International.
For the uninitiated, the chant is sung to the rhythm of Boney M’s R&B classic ‘Daddy Cool’, and the lyrics are:
‘Johnny, Johnny Stones
Johnny, Johnny Stones
He gets the Blues excited
He f#*king hates United’
The City faithful love any excuse to pelt out the delightful chant, and they made sure to do so after Stones grabbed a goal.
Aside from the 50,000 Citizens in the stadium, the chant was also being sung by none other than Erling Haaland himself, as seen in this short clip.
In it, ‘Johnny, Johnny Stones’ can be heard reverberating all throughout the venue prompting Halaand to join in as well.
There was visible passion on his face as he sang along, he even gave the goal-scorer an embrace before dishing out an emphatic pat on the back.
The moment just about sums up Haaland as a teammate; he can play the bodyguard on the pitch or the funny man off it, while also knowing to rouse the team up and elevate morale.
