Greece’s second division club Athens Kallithea FC is not a club that many have known much about, but their partnership with Italian brand Kappa for the 2023/24 kits have helped them go viral. A club that is based in Kallithea, a suburb in the Athens Urban Area in Greece, they have been in operation since 1966.
They have only spent a few seasons in their history in the Greek top division, which came in the early years of the 2000s decade. After being relegated to the second division in 2005, Athens Kallithea are yet to climb back up to the top of Greek football. They did, however, finish second last season and missed out on promotion by a single point.
The Greek second-division club’s heroics in the 2022/23 campaign has helped them gain some more popularity, but their name has gained more popularity thanks to their association with Italian manufacturer Kappa. This is the same brand that helped make Venezia’s kits famous a few years ago with their unique yet slick kit designs.
Kappa design gorgeous kits for Athens Kallithea
They seem to have done a similarly good job, if not better, with the Greek side. Earlier this summer, Athens Kallithea debuted their new kits for the 2023/24 season as they aim to get back into the top division of their football system in 2024.
Interestingly, the Athens club’s president is Ted Philipakos – who worked as Venezia’s Chief Brand Officer and played an influential role to bring Kappa as their kit manufacturer. Philipakos left his role at the Italian club earlier this year to focus on his position at Athens in an attempt to revitalize their image and help them gain more popularity.
Ted has been influential in convincing Kappa to design the Greek club’s kits and they seem to have hit a home run this time around. Athens Kallithea’s home kit is guaranteed to be a hit, as it’s more detailed than last season’s home kit. The dark blue kit has thin hoops of a gold colour, with the club badge and Kappa logos in white.
The home kit also has a polar collar design with a coral colour and a golden trim on the edges. Not just did Kappa impress with the home kit, but they seem to have done a really admirable work with the gorgeous away kit as well.
Indeed, the away kit moves away from the polo collar design to a more traditional round-neck one. This is a plan white kit, with a gold colour stripes and cuffs all over the attire. The colour of the crest and badges is also in gold, giving it a real old-school yet really elegant touch to it.
Fans love the designs for Athens’ kits
Athens Kallithea decided to use a female model to advertize their kits rather than having their players do it, which is what most of the major clubs prefer around Europe. This actually seems to have worked as the interesting attires and background help show the visceral kits in all their glory.
A lot of fans have been wowed by Kappa’s ability to pull off such elegant, beautiful looking kits despite not being that relevant as Adidas or Nike anymore.
The fact that a second-division Greek cub like Athens Kallithea can wear such gorgeous jerseys is making supporters from prominent European teams jealous and proof that you don’t always need a huge supply of money, or popularity, to come up with slick designs.
