Liverpool are set to return to the UEFA Europa League in the 2023/24 season, but at least Nike seems to have ensured that they’ll look nice in their European trips by designing a very unique third kit.
The Reds came up short in the Premier League last season, finishing outside the top-4. This means they’ll be back in the Europa League for the first time since 2016, when they lost out to Sevilla in the final. This time, Jurgen Klopp will probably aim to use the tournament to give more minutes to youngsters or the bench-warmers in the squad.
However, Liverpool are likely to challenge strongly for the Europa League because it serves as a way for them to add another European Trophy to their cabinet. Knowing that the Reds will probably go far into the tournament, Nike has gone with a rather interesting design for them to sport in European games or if necessary in away domestic matches too.
Liverpool’s unique third kit for 23/24 season
Just ahead of the start of their Premier League campaign against Chelsea, Liverpool’s third kit for the 2023/24 season has been leaked. The Merseyside club has already unveiled their slick home kit and also their 1990s’ inspired white and green design away kit.
They are yet to unveil their third kit, but it already seemed to have leaked all over. The leak shows that Nike has brought back a very unique purple colour for Liverpool to don in their away matches. It is a light purple kit with a more darker purple shade in the sides, while the sleeve cuffs are in black.
All the logos, including the Liverpool club crest as well as the Nike symbol, are in white – but there is an interesting pattern to it. Nike appears to have used the same fabric as they did for many kits worn by national teams in the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup, with all the logos also made from Nike Grind.
The Nike logo itself also has little ‘splash’ patterns in it and the brand appears to have included the ’97’ symbol in the kid, as a tribute for the Liverpool fans who passed away due to the Hillsborough Disaster.
It also looks like the American brand used the same kind of design debuted by the US Women’s National Team’s away kit at the Women’s World Cup. With that being said, the colour purple has featured a few times for Liverpool’s alternate kits over the last decade.
Warrior Football had slightly featured the purple colour in their 2012/13 and 2013/14 kits, while New Balance had designed a striking all-purple third kit for the Reds in the 2018/19 season, when they won the UEFA Champions League and wore it occasionally for the European clashes too.
When will the kit release?
The ever-reliable FootyHeadlines claims that this third kit should be released by Nike on August 17, well before Liverpool begin their Europa League campaign. That could also indicate that Liverpool might be planning to debut it sooner than that in an away Premier League game.
With that being said, some retail stores already seem to have put this kit up for grabs even though it’s yet to be unveiled. The Nike Soho store in New York has put it up for an early sale for fans to grab early before it is officially released.
Most Liverpool fans seem to be super impressed with this slick design and it should be a hit among the supporters upon its release. The 23/24 Liverpool away kit costs around £74.95 right now, so the third kit should be priced in that region once it releases as well.
The Reds seem set for a colour change in their European away games and will at least look really slick in their clashes against not-so-premium opponents in the Europa League this season.
