Recently David De Gea posted a video of himself practicing alone as he has yet to find a club after leaving Manchester United this summer, a club where he had spent 12 years of his professional career as an undisputed starter.
What’s up, David?
The Spaniard will probably say, “nothing much”, as there is no concrete news of a potential transfer, even though the summer transfer window is nearing its end.
A potential move to the Spanish capital gained attention as Courtois faced an ACL injury that would keep him out for an indefinite period, however, Real Madrid signed Kepa on loan from Chelsea ending the speculation.
Other clubs such as Sevilla and Bayern Munich were also interested, as the Bavarian Giants wanted a goalkeeper to replace club captain Manuel Neuer, who broke his while skiing during holidays, however, it never materialized as De Gea preferred other destinations over Munich.
According to Fabrizio Romano, clubs from Saudi Arabia also want to add De Gea to their already star-filled catalog, and it will be interesting to see if the move happens as the possibilities are high. Al Nassr is reported to be one of the clubs interested and a reunion with Cristiano Ronaldo is still on the cards.
Life outside football
David De Gea’s life outside football is pretty much a mystery. However, after stalking his social media platforms, we have got some clues about what he is up to nowadays.
The big news is that he recently got married to his longtime girlfriend, Edurne, a Spanish singer, who is reportedly more famous than him in Spain. De Gea and her partner posted three wedding photos and the caption read, “We couldn’t be happier”.
Sergio Aguero, Sergi Roberto, Marcos Alonso, and other players also congratulated him on his special day. A surprise comment was from the official Instagram page of Manchester United.
After his official announcement of departure from Manchester United on Twitter, he was following other sports such as Tennis, as he congratulated, the 20-year-old Spanish sensation, Carlos Alcaraz, on Twitter, on winning his first Wimbledon by defeating Novak Djokovic.
We also suspect that he is watching the famous American comedy-drama show, Ted Lasso, which is about an American football manager, coaching a British football team.
Apart from that he was also following the Women’s World Cup very closely, supporting his national team throughout the tournament, and also congratulating them when they won the coveted prize.
“Me sangran los oídos”, he also posted this on Twitter which translates to, “My ears bleed”, a possible reference to the ongoing saga surrounding the president of the Royal Spanish Football Federation, Luis Rubiales.
The Road Ahead for David De Gea
A player of De Gea’s quality won’t be short of suitors as many clubs would love to add him for his safe pair of hands. He may not be a modern-day goalkeeper but is a testimony of the bygone era, when being a goalkeeper was all about having crazy reflexes and insane shot-saving capability, everything David De Gea stands for.
