A lot has changed for Mikel Arteta over the last three years. The man branded a villain by the fans in 2020-2021 is now being worshipped by them after elevating Arsenal to Premier League title challengers. The fans just can’t get enough of him, or the chants created in tribute to the Spanish gaffer.
Arteta has guided his side to have their best start to the Premier League season since the 2007/08 campaign this time around, with the Gunners winning five of their seven matches so far and drawing the other two. New signings Declan Rice and David Raya are performing at a high level and even Kai Havertz – who got his own chant recently – is starting to get to his groove.
The Spanish manager had a dramatic change in his popularity over the last four years, with fans going from wanting him removed to now worshipping him as the best thing since sliced bread.
Gooners created the ‘Super Mik Arteta’ chant for the gaffer last season, which was inspired by the popular Creedence Clearwater Revival song ‘Bad Moon Rising’. They even debuted a brilliant ‘Vamos’ banner in homage to his rallying cry.
But come the new season, there is a need for a brand new chant too. At least, that’s what a bunch of travelling Arsenal fans thought while visiting France recently. During their trip to Lens for their Champions League clash, some Arsenal fans debuted a brand new chant for their manager.
The fans did so while partying in the French city. Even though they ended up losing the game and coming back to England with zero points, the fans were at least able to create a chant that has delighted a lot of other supporters.
The lyrics of the brand new Mikel Arteta chant that debuted recently goes something like this:
🎶I can’t explain,
we’ve got a manager that comes
from sunny Spain,
he’s gonna take us to the top,
the top again,
and when we win the league we’ll sing,
we’ll sing his name,
I guess it goes like Arteta,
Mikel Arteta
Mikel Arteta
Mikel Arteta
Mikel Arteta🎶
The references in the chant are rather self-explanatory. Arteta was born and raised in Spain, and was actually a part of the Barcelona youth academy before he started to impress as a player.
He took the Gunners close to winning the Premier League title last season and has positioned themselves nicely to be in the title race this time around as well.
This sweet little chant is inspired by popular South Korean DJ Peggy Gou and her 2023 disco hit ‘(It Goes Like) Nanana’.
It is actually directly taken from the chorus of her song, which has these lyrics:
I can’t explain
I got a feeling that I just
I can’t erase
Just a feeling that I won’t
Won’t leave behind
Because it’s something that is on
It’s on my mind
I guess it goes like na-na-na
Na-na-na-na-na, na-na-na-na-na
Na-na-na-na-na, na-na-na-na-na
Na-na-na-na-na, na-na-na-na-na
Na-na-na-na-na, na-na-na-na-na
A lot of Gooners appear to absolutely love this brand new chant for their gaffer, which has a real party vibe to it and something you can dance to at the disco as well.
Arteta is doing all the right things to get fans to create such irresistible little chants for him and definitely has the support of the fanbase around him.
He’ll look to guide his Arsenal side to defeat Manchester City in their upcoming huge Premier League game before the October international break.
A possible win over the defending champions can not only allow Arsenal to possibly capture top spot in the Premier League table, but get a huge boost of momentum in their title aspirations and get more fans to sing this new chant.
