Cole Palmer scored his first Premier League goal in Chelsea colours in their dominant 4-1 win over Burnley. It actually marks his first goal in the division itself, having never scored for Manchester City in the league.
Soon after his heroics, the Englishman marked his achievement with an interesting quote. Celebrating on Instagram, he posted a few pictures with a caption: “What a feeling to score my first goal!! Fans unreal again. Prem Soon..”
The last bit of his caption sent the Chelsea fanbase into detective mode. Many started to conspire over what that might’ve exactly meant. Some felt that Palmer was making a cheeky reference to winning the Premier League soon with the Blues.
However, they were instantly shut down by the Manchester City fans. That is because they’re well aware of what he meant by this comment. This appears to be a thing that Palmer has been doing since his time with Pep Guardiola’s side.
After scoring his first FA Cup goal for the Cityzens in January 2022 against Swindon Town, Palmer was asked about how he’s awaiting his first Premier League goal soon. To this he replied: “Delighted (to score first FA Cup goal). Prem Soon Come.”
Basically what he meant was that his first Premier League goal will soon come. Well, that ‘soon’ turned out to be quite far away. Palmer had to wait over 20 months since that FA Cup goal to get his first Premier League goal – which was the penalty against Burnley.
Now that his duck is broken, Palmer is hungry for a lot more. His first target will probably be to surpass the 21 goals he scored in Premier League 2 (reserves league). After that, it would definitely be to achieve the fans’ dream of seeing him lift the league title with the Blues.
