Paris Saint-Germain F.C. had to face AC Milan in their 4th group stage match of the Champions League. With a 2-1 defeat, PSG had a night to forget in the away stadium of San Siro. However, particularly for their 24-year-old goalkeeper, Gianluigi Donnarumma, the game was nothing short of a nightmare.
The goalkeeper left AC Milan to join the French side in 2021 on a free transfer. But it seemed that the fans still held a grudge against him for the move even after all this while. As a result, as soon as the Italian goalkeeper came out for the warm-up, he was greeted by wave whistles and insults.
This was just an indication of the treatment he would go through during the match. Chants of insults were echoed throughout the stadium as soon as he came down to warm up in the home stadium of San Siro.
Video footage captured chants of insult all around the stadium referring to him as “Donnarumma, son of a bit*h”. It also captured Kylian Mbappe’s insensitive attitude towards his teammate. Mbappe, instead of protecting his teammate, was seen in a joyous mood and found the whole scenario rather quite funny.
He was seen joining the home fans in their chants and also singing the insults alongside the home fans, that too right in front of his teammate.
As opposed, Donnarumma was captured as quite an embarrassed figure as he looked down on the ground in despair. Additionally, the classic whistles were hurled at his every touch of the ball.
Moreover, right before the start of the game, Milan supporters threw thousands of fake banknotes with Donnarumma’s face and the word ‘mercenary’ written on them.
Needless to say, the PSG goalkeeper overall had a night to forget in his return to San Siro. But from the point of view of Milan fans, it summed up a perfect night for them because not only did their team win but at the same time revenge was served on their former goalkeeper.
