Robert Lewandowski is undergoing major issues in what has been a really topsy-turvy 2023/24 campaign for him heading into the La Liga winter break.
There seems to be something missing in the Polish striker, who has earned the reputation for being the ultimate goal machine in Europe for so many years now.
Even though Lewandowski has eight goals in 16 La Liga appearances this season, that somehow feels too little for a striker of his pedigree.
He scored five goals in Barcelona’s first six La Liga games of the campaign, but they have dried up ever since.
That has resulted in a drop in Barca’s form too, with the Blaugrana currently six points behind league leaders Girona and four behind Real Madrid – both of whom have a game in hand.
A lot of Barca fans seem to have had enough of watching the Polish forward miss key chances and fail to tap into the goal-scoring mavericks that convinced the club to sign him last year.
Lewandowski is himself frustrated at his low output of goals, having just scored once in his last five league games for Barca.
He is basically trying all he can to get among the goals on a consistent basis again, but things are not just going his way at the moment.
The Polish forward also tried some rather extreme measures to get among the goals in Barcelona’s 3-2 win over Almeria in their final La Liga game of 2023.
In the first half, the Polish forward missed a few chances despite getting the ball in prominent areas inside the box.
After failing to score from normal positions, Lewandowski tried his best from weird angles. During a corner in the first half, the Polish striker saw the ball go behind his back and tried to score using his bum.
Of course, he failed to do that because of how near-impossible it is to divert the ball into the back of the net using that kind of angle.
Lewandowski tried something fancy and unique, only to come out of the situation looking like a bit of a fool.
The Polish forward had a night to forget in front of the goal, not being able to score anything from eight shot attempts. He did, however, salvage things for himself by setting up the winning goal scored by Sergi Roberto.
There haven’t exactly been many goals scored in prominent football matches using their private part, but ex-USMNT star Clint Dempsey did score a goal using what seemed like his crotch area against Portugal at the 2014 FIFA World Cup.
Lewandowski’s quirky attempt at ending his goal drought for Barcelona has amused a lot of fans, who can’t get enough of how funny the incident really is.
Some have even stated that Eden Hazard probably would’ve been able to score it from that angle due to him having larger buttocks.
The Barcelona star goes into the Christmas period at the back of a frustrating performance.
Lewandowski needs to work on his finishing skills to become that feared goal machine again and has to stop scoring goals using ‘extreme measures’ as he did against Almeria.
