‘Tis the season and with Christmas, come the gifts. Young and the old alike, are eagerly waiting to unwrap their gifts on the day and enjoy the presents, as they are meant to be.
Imagine if as a football fan your team isn’t doing so well and the gift you receive is a jersey of your team. All the bad memories are bound to start flooding in on a supposedly happy day.
Or even worse, what if you receive a jersey that is of your sworn enemy: a rival club or a player that you detest the most. Those situations are bad enough for a grown person to cry, imagine doing it your kids.
Well, the internet has already imagined it and even put some color on a digital canvas, to put it into picture, all thanks to Artificial intelligence (AI).
We are talking about the new meme format making its stronghold on the football twitter.
These memes display small kids opening a Christmas gift while their family is watching. They are seen crying as they have received football jerseys, probably not to their liking and the parents are seen laughing as if the prank they had planned has succeeded.
AI has come a long way. All you need to do today, for your imagination to come alive is, type in a prompt on a website like Dall.E, Midjourney, DeepAI etc. and you will be presented with your sentence coming to life.
Some of these pictures are poking fun at the clubs while others are targeting some players not in favor with their fans.
A few pictures feature big clubs like Chelsea and Manchester United who are not doing so well on the league table currently, and have lost their Christmas eve matches too. The likes of Nicolas Jackson and Antony are quite popular.
Some show a kid Spurs fan receiving Leicester jerseys with trophies surrounding him, putting salt on to the ’empty trophy room’ wound.
Twitter is finding these extremely hilarious and people are tagging their friends and social media buddies to share the funny memes amongst them.
With this new meme theme blowing up, people are curious to find out how these are being made so that they can send out some digital gifts too.
Players like Harry Maguire are catching strays as usual alongside the likes of underperforming high value names like Jack Grealish, Ousmane Dembele, Onana etc.
Its not limited to the Premier League either. The welsh clubs and all other clubs in leagues like La Liga and Bundesliga have been aimed and shot at.
Forget that, as the language of memes knows no boundaries, even other sports have been touched by its charm. American football and basketball have joined in on the fun. Who knows which sport is next.
There have also been tries to make happy kid versions of the same, but it doesn’t seem to have the same appeal as the other ones.
Its Christmas time people, hopefully you are not being so mean to others in real life. Go ahead and make some of your own crying kids but keep it in the meme world only.
