Playing for a variety of clubs like Liverpool, Leicester City, Aston Villa, etc. as a striker, Emile Heskey has made a name for himself. Not only that, he has represented his country England, a total of 62 times during his career.
The 45-year-old hung up his boots back in 2016 and since has been working for football in various capacities. He even has been helping the young lads in the England Under-18 team .
As well as he did during his footballing life, the same can’t be said for his financial life.
In the latest news HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC), in a bid to clear the streets of tax avoidance in football, made Heskey its target.
HMRC has filed a bankruptcy petition against Heskey in the High Court. This makes you wonder what the personal net worth of the England star must be like.
A huge chunk of Heskey’s wealth comes from his long and glorious footballing career. He was born in Leicester, and that is where he started his professional journey too.
Going through the youth system, he made his debut in 1995. He was an impressive talent and due to his performances with the club and country, he was offered a club record £25,000-plus weekly wage.
That wasn’t enough to hold him there though, as Liverpool FC came looking and swooped the then 22- year-old talent for £11m, a then club record transfer fee. He went on to lift five major honours during his time with the Reds.
His next two moves were to Birmingham and Wigan for similar amount of 5-6 million pounds.
It was in 2009, when his move from Wigan to Aston Villa was confirmed for £3.5 million fee on a three-and-a-half-year contract.
His total net worth at that point in 2009 was estimated to be around £12 million.
Coming towards the end of his playing career, he made a huge leap and joined the Australian club, Newcastle Jets. He was reported to be pocketing $100,000 a month while he was playing there.
At the end his last club was Bolton Wanderers where he finally decided to retire.
After 2016, he still continued to work with or around the footballing world. He took up the UEFA Executive Master for International Players programme to transition into a secondary career.
He worked as a football development officer for three years from 2017 to 2020. Currently, he works as Head of Football Development for Leicester city Women’s team.
Other than above-mentioned roles, he also works as a football expert and a pundit for various British broadcasts.
He even invested in a bar in Alderley Edge, Cheshire, and ran it with his wife Chantelle. He also founded an organization called Player 4 Player to help out current and retired players.
Summing up all the figures and sources of incomes, the total net worth estimate for Emile William Ivanhoe Heskey turns out to be around £17 million or $21 million.
Although he has invested in many places, they haven’t seemed to pan out. He has racked up debts on his assets to the north of £200k and defaulted on taxes. The recent bankruptcy proceedings seem to be his misfortunes peaking.
