Liverpool have managed to impose their authority in the 2023/24 Premier League campaign despite playing with a completely transformed midfield line and struggling with their share of injuries.
They are currently on top of the league table and going strong in competitions like the FA Cup, UEFA Europa League and the Carabao Cup.
The latter represents their chance to bag their first silverware of the campaign, and the Reds showed their hunger to lift the title with a spirited win over Fulham in the first leg of the semi-finals.
The Cottagers came to Anfield in high spirits and refused to go down without a fight.
Fulham took the lead through Willian and seemed poised to take a positive result to the second leg.
However, then super-sub Darwin Nunez changed things after coming on in the second half, assisting goals scored by Curtis Jones and Cody Gakpo to help Liverpool get a big win and keep their Carabao Cup aspirations on track.
However, it appeared that some Liverpool fans were particularly impressed with the performance of Fulham left-back Antonee Robinson.
The USMNT star did a pretty good job in keeping Harvey Elliott quiet and was defensively quite robust, clearing out a lot of trouble and helping his side sustain pressure.
After the game, some Liverpool fans started to urge Robinson to join their club in January amid their crisis in the left-back position.
Both Andy Robertson and Kostas Tsimikas are currently injured, forcing Joe Gomez to slot into that left-back role.
The Fulham man seemingly gave a small hint that he would be open to the prospect of moving to Anfield himself.
He personally liked the comment by a fan that urged him to join the Merseyside giants, something that was noticed by a lot of Liverpool supporters too.
Does Antonee Robinson suit Jurgen Klopp’s style?
Robinson has only missed two games for Fulham all throughout the campaign, showing his prowess as a reliable full-back.
The 26-year-old is quite the proactive figure in the wide area, and is a hard-working defender who tends to be quite involved in his team’s games.
In 19 Premier League appearances, he has made 53 tackles, won 113 duels and not made a single error leading to a goal. He is also averaging over 40 passes per game in the Premier League this season.
But even though he has recorded three assists in the league, Robinson’s 23% crossing accuracy shows that there are still aspects of his game he needs to improve.
The 26-year-old has also made 39 appearances for USMNT in his career, scoring four goals.
Even though he is defensively solid, he might not exactly suit Liverpool that well because Jurgen Klopp almost asks his full-backs to act as auxiliary wingers than just defenders who keep other wingers quiet.
Robinson does not seem to be that accurate with his crosses and lacks that special something in the final third.
That is probably a major reason why he’s not the best-suited player for the Reds, because Robinson is too defensive-first with his approach and Liverpool’s full-backs are urged to always keep swinging in inviting balls from the wide areas.
The Reds are not currently rumoured to be looking to sign a new left-back in the January window anyhow and are expected to have a quiet January window anyway.
Robinson, however, seems to be getting more recognition for his good work with the Cottagers and will aim to keep improving his performances against the top Premier League sides to improve his chances of securing a big-money move later this year.
