Darwin Nunez is been enjoying a prolific campaign for Liverpool this season so far. Having contributed 27 goals so far, the 24-year-old is at his happiest since his move to Merseyside.
It’s also clear that Nunez is a loyal family man who absolutely loves his wife. Darwin professed his love for her in a sweet way by inscribing her name ‘Lorena’ in his boots for a Europa League game recently.
Who Is Lorena Manas And How Did She Meet Darwin Nunez?
Lorena hails from Almeria, Spain and is the same age as Darwin (24). The two met when Nunez spent just one year in the Spanish city in the 2019/20 season, with Manas earning her reputation by doing some modelling work and also acting in some movies.
The association with Nunez is actually the second time in her life that Manas got married to a footballer. That is because she is the ex-wife of former Barcelona midfielder Aleix Vidal.
Manas and Vidal had gotten married in 2016 after she had met him when he had also been playing for Almeria (from 2011-2014) and the two also welcomed a baby daughter Chloe – who is now around seven.
However, Manas separated from Alexis in 2018 and started dating Nunez from 2019 when he joined Almeria.
The two welcomed their first child in January 2022 after which Lorena sent a heartwarming message to her partner, writing on her Instagram: “I would like you to fall down many times and always get up because that would mean you live intensely and without fear. I would like you to be nice to those who are in an underprivileged situation and unforgiving with those who abuse others, that you have the courage to take your own decisions and that nobody marks out your path.”
Manas decided to move to England with Nunez once he joined Liverpool in 2022 and has been living with him in England. Having the responsibility of raising two young children, she clearly has a busy life and likes to keep things quiet private in her lifestyle.
She has over 135,000 followers on her Instagram and can be quite funny with her crude sense of humour going viral last year.
However, after seeing that harmless story become viral on social media and covered by many outlets, Lorena has now turned her Instagram profile on private.
She is, however, a supportive partner for Darwin and has kept him motivated through his highs and lows over the last few years. Nunez has credited her and some fans for keeping him confident during his low point in the early stages of his Liverpool career.
He remarked last year how she kept him upbeat after winning a Player of the Month award and said: “It’s really great for me and my wife too. Even she has said to me, ‘It’s incredible how they support you and are always behind you.’ She always says to me that when I was struggling a bit with form in the first few games, the fans were always showing their support for me.”
Even though Darwin is well aware of Lorena’s past affiliations with Vidal and how she shares her first child with another man, there does not seem to be any kind of jealousy in the Uruguayan forward at all.
He appears to be extremely happy with his partner and is smitten with love, and publicly professed is love for her during their holidays together last year, posting a string of pictures of them together and writing: “Holidays with you by my side are better, you deserve my whole life. Thank you for putting up with my craziness, without you nothing would be possible.”
Lorena is one of the, if not THE, biggest motivational factor that is keeping Nunez going and striving for more and more. Liverpool fans would hope their love keeps blossoming and keeping Darwin in this happy, hungry state so that he can help the club win more trophies going forward.
