Being a legend for a club of Man United’s standing means it’s likely your image will be plastered across all sorts of places and things.
However, this latest piece of fashion upon which his image has been discovered will leave Roy Keane with a shaking head of disgust.
The former Ireland international has become even more popular in the football circles ever since his retirement thanks to the grumpy-uncle persona he shares with the world as a pundit on UK television. Having joined Instagram in a surprising move not too long ago, the 52-year-old has also seemingly started enjoying the lighter side of life and can sometimes even be seen chuckling at jokes made by his colleagues.
But he certainly wouldn’t be in the best of moods to see the funnier side of the “Roy Jeans”, especially with his former side having recently dropped two points against Brentford in their bid to secure Champions League football for next season.
Yes, you read that right. Over the weekend, a pair of jeans were discovered with the face of the Man United stalwart emblazoned onto it.
The Roy in the jeans, having been photographed just before one of his international outings as Ireland captain, even has a bit of a smirk on his face—something that would make present-day Roy all the more dismayed.
The image first popped up on Instagram via Pellador, an “Irish Designed Knitwear & Sportswear” account, and eventually reached X, formerly Twitter, from where it spread to the mainstream footballsphere.
Needless to say, the Twitterati have been thoroughly enjoying the discovery.
Some have been reminded of their worse (or better) days:
While others have been giving more ideas to pair the Roy Jeans with:
Everything about the article, from the clothing, its colour, to the choice of player to fit that inescapable pun, seems to have been decided upon for the sole purpose of getting the Irishman’s attention, and few would fail to guess the immediate reaction of his when he first lays eyes on them.
After all, who can forget that time when Roy’s Sky Sports colleague Micah Richards showed him a clip of his FIFA 21 avatar celebrating an in-game goal in a manner that can only be described as “not Keane-esque”.
In time, maybe Keane will find the humour in the jeans, so to speak. After all, he himself would agree that he “has gone soft” over the years thanks to the people around him trying to melt some of that rigid Keane ice.
But let’s be honest, if it weren’t for his Grinch act, “Keano” wouldn’t be as loved as he is today.
What do you think of the Roy Jeans? Let us know.
