FPL Insights: The Case for Mark Flekken and His Ideal Rotation Options

While many like to rotate keepers between favourable home fixtures, others stick to a single team set for a solid run of games. And this is where Mark Flekken comes in.

The Brentford keeper recorded 119 points last season and his unchanged £4.5m price makes him a popular choice this season as well.

In the 37 outings, Flekken had 7 clean sheets and 1 assist to his name. His 113 saves throughout the season earned the custodian 12 bonus points.

If you are considering a set, pick Hákon Valdimarsson for £4m, and you’re good to go with £8.5m spent on keepers.

Flekken opens his fixtures against Crystal Palace at home, followed by Liverpool away, and this is where the rotation comes in. For GW3, another low-difficulty home fixture is there with Southampton followed by Manchester City and Spurs away.

So, looking at the first 7 home fixtures for Brentford, we will have: Palace, Southampton, West Ham, Wolves, Ipswich, Bournemouth, and Leicester until GW13.

For the tougher away fixtures, a rotation option is necessary. According to the common sentiment in the FPL community, the best rotation pair for him is Palace number-one keeper.

That, of course, depends on who starts for Palace between Dean Henderson and Sam Johnstone, both priced at 4.5. The balance tips in Henderson’s favour, but we’ll know once the season starts.

In the alternative gameweeks, Palace will play West Ham home in GW2, Leicester home in GW4, Everton, Nottingham and Wolves away for the next three even-numbered gameweeks.

There’s also increasing demand for Forest keeper Miguel, who is priced at £4.5m.

His fixtures are also a treat for the eyes, with only two unfavourable fixtures against City and Chelsea in the first 10 gameweeks.

Another option is Sanchez, as Chelsea will have a smooth run of fixtures between GW2 and GW7.

Given Chelsea’s pre-season performance, that’s still a risky plot, but his £4.5m price for a potential top 6 defence is enticing enough. But Chelsea has 6 keepers vying for that first-team role, so watch out for that.

Despite all these, the majority of managers are keeping their faith in Flekken.

His tough away fixtures mean potential for bonus points from saves thanks to the busy day he will have in those games.

As of the time of writing, Flekken is the fourth most selected player on the site with almost 14% ownership, only behind Turner, Raya and Jordan Pickford. So if you’re in favour of a good night’s sleep with the goalkeeper dilemma out of the way, Flekken is your man to go with.
