Michael Olise was officially presented as a new Bayern Munich player to the German media ahead of the 2024-25 Bundesliga season.
The Frenchman has joined the Bavarians from Crystal Palace and is coming off an eventful Summer Olympics, where his France side won the silver medal.
Despite being an eventful character on the pitch, Olise appears to be the complete opposite off the pitch.
The winger was accompanied by Bayern Munich sporting director Max Ebert and even handed a cake for winning a silver medal in the Olympics.
This was even though Olise took off his medal soon after the presentation in Paris.
After all the antics, the floor was thrown open to the German media to ask questions to Olise.
Normally, the player presentations in football give the players the perfect platform to answer queries and increase their popularity among the media and fans with witty answers.
Well, Olise doesn’t seem particularly keen on positive PR in such events.
He looked totally bored and subdued throughout the presentation ceremony and had a hilariously short press conference.
An early question asked to Olise was if he felt that Bundesliga would be quite different from the physical Premier League.
He simply answered: “I think it’ll be a bit different. But……well I don’t know. I don’t know!”
Olise is coming off an impressive 2023-24 season with Palace despite his injury issues. He scored 10 goals and provided six assists in 19 Premier League appearances last season.
So it’s only logical that one German journalist asked him if he prefers scoring goals or creating them, to which he answered ‘Whatever. Both.’.
The Frenchman will also be playing with German young sensation Jamal Musiala, who is coming off an impressive Euro 2024 too.
Many Bayern fans are excited to see them play together so one question popped up asking him about Musiala and how he feels about playing with him, to which Olise simply stated: “Good lad we used to play together.”
The French winger was also quizzed on if he’s inspired by any former France forward and to speak up about whom he idolizes.
He simply voiced his admiration for former Bayern Munich winger Franck Ribery, claiming that he ‘likes’ him.
Olise’s one-word or one sentence answers did not impress the journalists, who simply stopped asking him questions after a point because of how he refused to give any detailed quotes.
The press conference lasted for only three minutes, both bewildering and amusing the supporters.
To his credit, Olise is actually earning some praise for the authentic way he carried himself in the presentation rather than acting fake in doing some positive PR for himself.
He is attracting some criticism for not having the necessary ‘media training’ in talking to the journalists properly.
Some have even hilarious compared Olise’s press conference to be similar to Adin Ross’ stream where he bought Playboy Carti to his house, only for him to leave after five minutes and without saying much.
The reality is that Olise is a bit of an introvert and camera-shy.
Moreover, he still doesn’t know how to speak German – which can be an obstacle in him speaking to the local media fluently.
The Frenchman might’ve had a disastrous media debut, but as long as he can keep scoring and assisting goals for Bayern in the coming campaign and help them reclaim their Bundesliga title – all will soon be forgotten.
