Which Kanye West All-Timer Did Chelsea Use to Unveil Joao Felix For The Second Time?

Chelsea, Joao Felix, Kanye West

Chelsea have delighted the majority of their fanbase by bringing back charismatic winger Joao Felix to add more spice to their attacking force.

This was done to help Atletico Madrid sign Conor Gallagher as well, with Felix likely to be a direct replacement for Raheem Sterling – who is now completely out of favor and left out to dry at Stamford Bridge.

Felix had spent the second half of the 2022/23 season on loan at Chelsea. Even though he only scored four goals, the Portuguese winger’s flair and trickery delighted many fans.

While their initial announcement back in January 2023 was quite basic, the club created a video montage for his unveiling this time around.

The video featured a closer look at how the Portuguese winger looks in the club’s new home kit and behind-the-scenes footage of him posing for unveiling pictures.

Felix can also be seen dribbling with the ball and doing some keep-ups at the club’s empty Cobham Training Facility. While the compilation clip itself is pretty sweet, what adds the nostalgic emotion is the background song added in by the editors.

It’s quite clear that the background song is ‘Homecoming’ from Grammy-winning Rapper Kanye West and Coldplay lead singer Chris Martin. The song is one of his more popular creations and is the perfect one to use for any ‘homecoming’ occasion. In this context, it is Felix coming back to his ‘home’ of Stamford Bridge and that is why the song adds an emotional touch to the clip.

Only the chorus of West’ ‘Homecoming’ is used for the Joao Felix return video, which goes something like this:

I’m comin’ home again
Do you think about me now and then? (Yeah)
Do you think about me now and then?
‘Cause I’m comin’ home again, ‘min’ home again

The song ‘Homecoming’ was actually created by Kanye West as an ode to his love for his city of Chicago. The ‘I’m coming home again’ bit is actually him trying to reconcile his relationship with city and is also a metaphor for him longing to return to his ‘roots’ in the city he was born in.

The use for this song by the Blues is basically to hype up the Chelsea fans that the Portuguese star is coming back permanently to perform for them for the forseeable future.

Felix’s return to Chelsea might make for their 11th signing of the 2024 summer window, but there is a lot of positivity around it. He’s had a pretty memorable unveiling thanks to this sweet clip and now it’s on the Portugal international to finally prove how good he can be by tapping into his ultimate potential at Stamford Bridge and winning major trophies for the Blues.
