Wojciech Szczesny’s Early Retirement and the Oasis Reunion Fan Theory

Arsenal, Juventus, Wojciech Szczesny

Wojciech Szczesny has become the latest prominent footballer to prematurely retire from the sport at the age 34. While he isn’t exactly ‘young’ at all, 34 is not considered as that old for goalkeepers because of their durability and ability to potentially play into their 40s too.

But Szczesny, who was released from his Juventus contract this summer, has opted to hang up his boots and focus on something else in his career.

He explained his decision on Instagram: “I gave the game 18 years of my life, everyday, without excuses. Today, although my body still feels ready for challenges, my heart is not there anymore. I feel that right now it is time to give all of my attention to my family – my amazing wife Marina and our two beautiful children Liam and Noelia. Therefore I have decided to retire from professional football.”

But the exact timing of his retirement announcement along with the names of his children has gotten fans talking about a wicked theory. That is because it comes right after popular British band Oasis announced that they would be having a reunion tour in the summer of 2025, beginning from July 2025.

This would be the band’s first shows in over 15 years, with brothers Liam and Noel Gallagher seemingly ending their feud and coming together to thrill the fans once again.

Some football fans actually believe that Szczesny has decided to retire so that he can start preparing himself up for the Oasis concert!

Szczesny is married to Polish singer Marina Luczenko and the couple have two children, whose names might be a big giveaway to his love for the British band.

While the ex-Arsenal goalkeeper has never really spoken about his love for Oasis in any public interview, a lot of fans have a theory that his children’s name is itself a bit of an ‘Easter Egg’ of how much he loves the band.

Of course now that his period at Juventus is over, Szczesny can opt to return back to living in London as he takes his time in making the decision of what will be the next chapter of his career.

The 34-year-old actually owns his own small-time business that is still operating in the English capital. Indeed, Szczesny is the director of ‘Super Flow Limited’ in London, a company that he set up in 2011 – when he was still playing for Arsenal. Super Flow Limited is a drainage solution services company that provides help to domestic, commercial and industrial customers.

The company has been active since 2011 and is registered under the UK Government Company House too, meaning that Szczesny has his own small-time business going on throughout his career.

Having spent 11 years at Arsenal, Szczesny has his own house in London where he can easily settle back in now that he’s retired. It’ll also be an ideal place for him to stay in anticipation of the Oasis reunion, with the band doing four shows at Wembley Stadium in July and August 2024.
