Liverpool’s season under Arne Slot has gotten off to a brilliant start with 2 wins from 2 against Ipswich and Brentford. The newest addition to Slot’s Liverpool side is winger Federico Chiesa.
The Italian winger, bought from Juventus for 13 million Euros is an absolute bargain when it comes to transfer prices this window. Chiesa, who was forced out of Juventus after being excluded from new manager Thiago Motta’s plans, will hope to make his mark at Anfield.
Chiesa’s biggest asset is his versatility, allowing him to operate effectively on both flanks and making him a valuable asset for Slot to deploy. His wing play skillset aligns perfectly with Slot’s philosophy, who likes to play his wingers high and wide.
Chiesa has been open about his love for Anfield and his excitement to be part of Liverpool. On his flight to Liverpool Chiesa saw Anfield from the skies and had this to say, “As soon as I saw Anfield I told my wife, put the song on You’ll Never Walk Alone, because I want to imagine myself playing there and hearing the chants of the fans and this song.”
This affinity and passion Chiesa has for the club, before he has even stepped onto the pitch has gotten the Liverpool faithful to take an instant liking to him.
The Kopites haven’t been shy in showing their love for the Italian either, with a new chant already emerging for Chiesa thanks to Paul Connor.
Paul Connor, a musically talented Liverpool fan who’s created multiple other chants for players like Nunez, released his new song for the Kop End to burst into when Chiesa makes his debut.
This new chant, a rather cheeky one, is based on the tune of the classic “That’s Amore” by Dean Martin released in 1953, which became an instant hit and has aged as a classic. The borrowed melody might just add a touch of Italian charm to the terraces of Anfield.
The lyrics go like this –
He’ll assist from the left and score from the right
That’s Chiesa
Won the Euro’s one night made the England look shite
That’s Chiesa
He’ll eat pasta and bread and run rings round the Ev
That’s Chiesa
Then he’ll score one or two leave them all feeling blue
That’s Chiesa
While the chant praises their new signing, it also aims a couple of digs at Everton and unexpectedly the England side as well!
“He’ll assist from the left and score from the right, that’s Chiesa,” the chant begins, encapsulating Chiesa’s versatility on the field. The line “Won the Euro’s one night, made England look shite, that’s Chiesa” takes a playful dig at England’s defeat in the Euro 2020 final, a moment of pride for Italian fans and a day to forget for the Englishmen
It pokes fun at Liverpool’s cross-town rivals, Everton. “He’ll eat pasta and bread and run rings round the Ev, that’s Chiesa,” highlighting how casual it might just be for Chiesa and Liverpool to dominate the Merseyside derby.
Passion for the club, love for the fans, love from the fans, and a chant, with all these things sorted Chiesa is set to step out on the pitch and possibly be Anfield’s next cult hero.
