The Belgian midfielder became somewhat of a meme on social media due to his response, particularly because of the swiftness with which he switched his accent while retorting back.
Amadou recently even touched up on the incident in a Sky Sports interview –
I feel like if I’m not doing my job in the pitch someone will let me know. Of course, as a journalist it is your job to know my name or how to pronounce it. It’s a weird one (changing accent) as I have different voice and different languages but it is what it is.
It seems that Amadou has embraced the viral meme and taken it a step further with his brilliant attire while reporting to the Belgium national team for their UEFA Nations League matches during the September international break.
The Aston Villa man opted to wear a black t-shirt that had the words ‘Andre is not even my name mate!’ written in the middle.

Clothing portal ‘Viralstyle’ has made a number of different variations to this funny t-shirt design. The normal round neck t-shirt version of this costs around £22 (plus extra in shipping charges). The men’s tank top version, similar to what Onana is wearing here, costs around £23.6 plus shipping.
Apart from this particular outlet, ‘Tshirtatlowprice’ are also selling this witty design. They’re a USA-based brand that ships their products outside the country for extra charges. Their unisex t-shirt version of this costs just £13.6, considerably cheaper than the Viralstyle one – even though they will cost you decent money for shipping too.
Safe to say Amadou Onana’s choice to promote this amusing design for free will significantly enhance these websites’ chances of boosting their sales.
