Liverpool’s start to the 24/25 season has been solid, with wins in the Premier League and good start in the Champions League with a win against AC Milan, although the Reds faltered to a 1-0 loss to Nottingham Forest in their most recent league game.
The performances have given fans plenty to talk about, and now thanks to Alisson, even the facial features have become talk of town thanks to his dramatic new look.
Known for his steady hands between the posts and his ever-present, perfectly maintained beard, Alisson has always shown consistency, whether it’s on the pitch or his looks.
Week after week, fans could count on seeing the Brazilian keeper sporting his iconic, neatly trimmed, somewhat of a cushiony beard. So what could possibly be more surprising for Liverpool fans than a tactical shake-up or a new signing? Alisson shaving off his beard.
On Thursday morning, Liverpool’s official Twitter account sent fans into a frenzy by posting a video of Alisson, clean-shaven and looking completely different.
The video showed him sharing a laugh with teammate Alexis Mac Allister, but it wasn’t that interaction that got fans talking—it was the fact that Alisson’s famous beard was nowhere to be seen.
The transformation was reminiscent of a typical schoolboy cleaning up for class photo day. It felt like Alisson had traded his usual rugged look for something a bit more fresh-faced, perhaps in honor of Liverpool’s squad photo day.
In full kit, the 31-year-old now looked more like a student who had just tidied up for picture day than the rock-solid goalkeeper we’ve come to know.
The shock didn’t stop there. In the same video posted Chiesa walks in and looks extremely similar to a clean shaven Alisson and fans were quick to point this out. Both of them share the same boyish look, and have similar features like their sharp nose and even their smirk.
Fans joked saying this was Alisson’s attempt to enter the Italian team disguised as Chiesa, after Brazil’s poor international break.
But as with any bold fashion choice, reactions were mixed. One fan account posted an image of Alisson and Mac Allister, captioned: “Clean-shaven Alisson has entered the arena.” The general feedback? Not so positive. One fan lamented, “My day has been significantly ruined,” while another dramatically declared, “Day ruined.”
The Gen Z dropped into the comments section as well, “Why did he shave his Aura? We’re about to concede for fun,” capturing the apprehension of the slightly younger audience of Liverpool.
Fans even went to the extent of thinking that the new look Alisson was a new signing, and not their own keeper.
One fan wished for the return of the moustache version of Alisson, a throwback to when the keeper chose to switch things up with his facial hair in 2021, looking almost like Ian Rush.
Interestingly, this isn’t the first time Alisson has gone beardless. In November 2022, he sported a similar look before a match against Southampton, which Liverpool won 3-1.
After the match Harvey Elliott dropped a cheeky comment suggesting that Alisson should shave before every game. Given that Liverpool triumphed with a clean shaven Alisson on that occasion maybe its time he brought out the razor more often.
It’ll also be interesting to know if the Brazilian likes this look and continues with it for the rest of the season or does he grow the beard back, almost making the timeline return to normalcy.
As Liverpool prepare for their upcoming clash against Bournemouth, it remains to be seen whether Alisson’s new look will be a lucky charm or just a passing phase. Either way, one thing’s for sure—the beard may be gone, but Alisson’s ability to keep Liverpool in the game is as strong as ever.
