Kylian Mbappe has transcended the level of an ordinary footballer to become his own brand since the start of his senior career in 2015.
The blockbuster transfer to Real Madrid in the summer only helped to raise his popularity even more. The Mbappe brand became much more lucrative for sponsors.
While Mbappe has had a pretty solid start at Real Madrid with five goals in six La Liga games, he’s been also doing some smart work with his off-the-pitch activities.
The French forward, who is greatly aided in his personal investments and decision-making by his proactive mother Fayza, recently decided to make a rather interesting investment in a German company.
German electronics firm Loewe have revealed that Mbappe has acquired a 10% ownership stake in their company.
The exact monetary fee paid for that has not been revealed, but he’s made the acquirement through his investment firm Coalition Capital (the business investment arm of Interconnected Ventures).
Loewe have also made him a brand ambassador and the brand’s CEO Aslan Khabliev claims that ‘Loewe’s valuation ideally grows to about €500 million over the next roughly five years,’ and that ‘Kylian helped tremendously with a bluetooth speaker we have developed with him.’
But this is not the only recent major investment that the French forward has made.
Mbappe has also decided to help out his childhood club Caen FC, with whom he had trials as an up-and-coming young footballer in France.
A few months ago, Mbappe’s Coalition Capital acquired a major ownership stake of the Ligue 2 club from the American company Oaktree Capital Management.
He acquired 80% of the club’s ownership stake for a reported amount of £12.5 million-£16.7 million, basically saving the French side from potential bankruptcy.
Mbappe’s firm has partnered with French businessman Pierre-Antoine Capton’s PAC Interest to co-own the club, even though the Real Madrid star remains the majority owner.
Capton praised Mbappe’s firm for stepping up to help Caen in its time of need, claiming: “It is an incredible opportunity for Stade Malherbe Caen to be able to count on Coalition Capital for its development. Its values, commitments and extraordinary vision of sport are unique assets for this project.”
Mbappe’s investment firm also has a unique business deal with Sorare, the popular non-fungible tokens (NFT) brand.
The French forward actually agreed a deal with the brand back in 2022, when the two parties announced a unique agreement where Mbappe joined the brand as an investor, brand ambassador as well as a social impact partner.
As part of the agreement, Mbappe owns an undisclosed percentage of the brand’s ownership shares and also has his personalized NFT cards too.
As part of the partnership, the Frenchman was also able to get Sorare to agree on supporting his philanthropic venture ‘Inspired by KM‘ (IBKM) and helping young disadvantaged people learn about the world of Web3 technology.
The Inspired by KM brand was set up as a charitable foundation by the Mbappe family to help disadvantaged people get the opportunities to achieve their dreams.
Mbappe voiced his delight at associating with the brand in 2022, stating: “Off the pitch, the most important thing for me is helping empower young people – who might not have access to the type of opportunities others have – to realise and fulfill their dreams and potential.
Mbappe is also the founder of the Zebra Valley Production company. An entertainment studio “that creates inspiring content about people and ideas that change the world. With scripted, non-scripted, and animation capabilities, our projects will encourage important dialogue among global communities by telling stories that matter.”
Zebra Valley announced a content-creation partnership with the NBA in 2022 to help increase fan engagement around the world.
Mbappe is also partnered up with Hollywood agency WME Sports to help with the management of the Zebra Valley production company. He signed with them in 2022, soon after which the company really started to soar.
The Frenchman even has his own graphic novel comic book named ‘Je m’appelle Kylian’. This comic book is basically a retelling of how Mbappe grew up, what he was before becoming famous and how he went onto become a footballer.
The comics even have some animated retelling of his meetings with Zinedine Zidane and Cristiano Ronaldo when he was younger. The comic book is even available on Amazon for around £27.
On top of this, Mbappe also owns two real estate companies to help him make extra money on the side. The 25-year-old can of course afford to make these pricey investments because he’s one of the highest-earning footballers on the planet.
Mbappe earns more than £25 million annually (base salary) at Real Madrid through his current deal and has a huge earning scheme through his various sponsorship programs. He also has a reported net worth of £134 million, making him one of the richest footballers around.
He’s created his own ‘project’ of looking after his business ventures carefully to ensure that he and his family will always remains wealthy even after his football career is done.
Jean-Baptiste Guegan, the co-owner of the autobiography Revolution Mbappe has described his off-the-pitch ventures perfectly by stating: “Kylian Mbappe has understood that it’s not enough to succeed on the pitch. His story began before the pitch. It begins with a mastery of his own channels and media, through partners and sponsors he has chosen, which correspond to his values and are based on an idea that what is rare is valuable.”
