Scotland and Portugal locked horns with one another in their UEFA Nations League outing at the Hampden Park on Tuesday, 15th October.
Cristiano Ronaldo’s men were unable to claim a second successive win in a week’s span as a boring 0-0 draw between the two countries saw them walk away with one point apiece.
There were not many talking points from the match, but fans were quick to notice Andy Robertson and Bernardo Silva sharing a light moment with each other in the stadium prior to kick-off.
The Premier League duo was pictured in the tunnel with the Manchester City midfielder saying something in the Liverpool full-back’s ear, to which both were seen grinning – thereby compelling fans to debate what exactly was being said.
A few X (formerly Twitter) accounts took to the platform to share their surprise at two rival players getting along on the international stage.
Interestingly, the duo has had a war of words a couple of times in the recent past.
Bernardo Silva has not made the best of friends on Merseyside as he accused Liverpool fans of not being able to read a book in 2020 when some of them engaged in banter on his social media handles.
Andy Robertson passively replied to Silva stating that he was releasing a book on Liverpool’s Premier League triumph earlier that year, which incidentally happened within days of Silva taking to Twitter.
One instance came in 2022 as well when Bernardo Silva basically tried to imply that Liverpool were in a precarious situation in the title race in March in spite of playing and winning their game in hand, to move to within a point of their rivals.
Robertson refused to engage in a verbal battle with the Portuguese international and insisted that he too would have preferred being table toppers like Man City with “points on the board” rather than having to play a game in hand.
The two clubs would face each other less than a month after both players’ comments and share the spoils at the Etihad Stadium, some four weeks before Manchester City eventually secured their league crown on the last day of the season.
A bunch of users also hilariously pointed out at how they must have been discussing the possibility of Arsenal not winning the league despite being in strong positions in the last couple of seasons.
They are once again in the title mix, but it remains to be seen if Mikel Arteta has enough quality in his squad to stop a Manchester City triumph.
If one looks at the video footage, Bernardo Silva had a hand over his lip when he muttered whatever he did into Andy Robertson’s ear and as a result, not even the most accurate of lipreaders have been able to decode the Portuguese’s supposed joke.
What could they have been discussing, however? Perhaps anything from how congested the calendar of fixtures is, or how terrible the weather is going to be in the UK in the coming weeks – the list of theories can go on, but we will probably never know.
The English media, a nosey one at that, will try to pry both players in the coming weeks to see what was said between them whilst on international duty, though it would be far from a surprise if they brushed off such questions.
The next time Robertson and Silva go face-to-face will be on December 1st at Anfield as Liverpool host Manchester City in the Premier League. It could be a match that might go a long way in deciding the course of the title and a fixture that is unlikely to showcase any smiling phases between the opponents.
