Cristiano Ronaldo had a no good, forgettable evening at Hampden Park in Portugal’s 0-0 draw against Scotland in the UEFA Nations League.
The 39-year-old forward was basically manmarked out of the game and failed to add more international goals on the same day Lionel Messi scored a hat-trick for Argentina.
Ronaldo tried to be the center of attention in the match but had some embarrassing moments. He had a few shooting attempts go horrible astray.
The forward was even allowed in a hilariously bad short free-kick attempt which resulted in the ball being given to the Scotland team. After a frustrating outing in Glasgow’s premier stadium, Cristiano lost his temper after full-time.
The 39-year-old was clearly annoyed that his side couldn’t score past a Scottish side that conceded seven goals in three matches before the Portugal clash.
But it was the way the match ended that really triggered Ronaldo. After four minutes were added on in stoppage time, Portugal received a corner in the absolute final minute of that allotted time.
The referee, however, had no intentions of giving Portugal an extra shot at trying to score. He blew the final whistle right after they received a corner, something that bewildered Ronaldo.
The Portuguese forward ended up throwing a temper tantrum on the pitch, something that has absolutely delighted the Scottish football fans.
Some supporters love how childish Ronaldo behaves like after simply not letting a late corner, making him come off as a sore loser.
The Scottish brigade also love how they were able to get the 39-year-old forward raging like that after just a Nations League clash and are laughing at his meltdown.
There has even been some cheeky banter that Cristiano’s antics after the game was just him complaining about Scotland defender Tony Ralston, who was rock solid at the back.
There have already been a string of memes showing Ronaldo being annoyed at being ‘pocketed’ by Ralston and how the Scottish defender had to take him ‘out of his pocket’ after the match.
But the best bit of cheeky banter towards Ronaldo’s childish antics have come from popular Scottish YouTuber Allaster McKallaster.
He has over 60,000 subscribers on his YouTube channel, as well as over 170,000 followers on Instagram (his actual name is Peter Reid) and 90,000+ on TikTok.
He excels at doing mock commentary to add comedic relief to matches, especially Scottish ones.
Mckallaster has released a brilliant clip of an ‘alternate’ commentary to Ronaldo’s meltdown at Hampden Park, which goes something like this: “Portugal cling on for a draw here. Oh what’s that dobber whining about now? He’s got a face like a melted welly. The Portuguese pensioner acting like a petulant preteen. Oh it’s a double thumbs down now is it? Oh I’ll tell you, it’s a big fan dabi dozi from us in Scotland. Two thumbs, get it right up you!”
The actual interaction Ronaldo had with referee Lawrence Visser after the match was basically just criticizing him for prematurely ending the game.
The Al Nassr forward was seen mouthing off the words ‘sh**’ to the referee to make his feelings on his decision felt rather clearly. But the 39-year-old’s triggered reactions have added to the joy of finally getting a point on the board in the Nations League for Scotland fans.
Even though the Scottish side are more or less eliminated from the group stages (with one point in four games), moments like this are one to cherish for the Scottish faithful as their side was at least able to stop Ronaldo from adding another goal to his international record.
