Arsenal loanee Nuno Tavares is no longer the laughing stock he had become in his uneventful years with the Gunners. After failing to impress in the Premier League, he opted to join Lazio on loan for this season and that has turned out to be a career-altering decision for the full-back.
The Portuguese defender has bagged eight assists in the first nine Serie A matches of the 2024/25 season, the most for any player in the division. He’s ousted the likes of Christian Pulisic, Rafael Leao and Marcus Thuram in this regard.
Tavares’ brilliant form has seen him rewarded with a call-up to the Portugal national team for their upcoming UEFA Nations League matches against Poland and Croatia. Considering his current form, the 24-year-old seems primed to get his senior international debut during this international break too.
But the Lazio defender decided to turn up to the Portugal national team camp wearing something rather outlandish. Rather than wear something formal or simple like a sweatshirt/hoodie and jeans, he turned up wearing a black t-shirt with an eye-catching message.
He turned up into the camp wearing a t-shirt designed by Syna World, the streetwear fashion brand that was founded by UK rapper Central Cee. The brand is popular for its casual and unique attires like t-shirts, hoodies and track pants. The one worn particularly by Tavares for this occasion is their basic black t-shirt with a rather X-rated symbol in the middle.
There is a symbol that shows a lady taking off her underwear, which is surrounded by the words ‘Only 18+. Content rated by SYNA’. Even though footballers have created this new trend of turning up to international duty wearing unique fashionable clothes, the t-shirt worn by Tavares is definitely not one meant for kids.
The 24-year-old has earned some criticism for his choice of clothing, with many fans criticizing the strange attire.
This particular t-shirt is one of the more famous ones from Syna World and has sold like hot cakes among Central Cee’s supporters. Tavares probably wore it to Portugal training to showcase his support for the UK rapper, who has shown his love for Chelsea over the last year. This Syna t-shirt is definitely not cheap, being priced at £99 in the Syna World official website, which also offers worldwide shipping with extra costs.
Perhaps the 24-year-old defender wore this attire to catch Central Cee’s attention and potentially get him to feature Tavares in a future music video. The defender paired the t-shirt with basic blue jeans, a cap and a rather eye-catching pair of sunglasses too.
He is wearing a pair of Miu Miu sunglasses that costs about £390 on Farfetch. It’s clear that the full-back wanted to earn some attention in his debut Portugal call-up and decided to do so by also showing his love for the current UK rap culture.
Tavares might not have impressed many with his unique attire, but he’ll now be more focused on making his mark for Portugal and strengthening his chances of being their first-choice left-back for the long-term.
