Manchester United players are in seventh heaven after their thrilling 2-1 win over Manchester City in Ruben Amorim’s first Manchester Derby. Despite a drab first-half performance, the Red Devils piled the pressure on a nervy Pep Guardiola side to snatch all three points with late goals from Bruno Fernandes and Amad Diallo.
The Ivory Coast winger, in particular, played a huge role in the win as his movement and trickery tormented the Manchester City defenders. He earned the penalty for Fernandes by forcing a silly foul, before making a clever off-the-ball run to score a sweet winner in the dying minutes.
Amad became the ultimate hero for Manchester United players and fans after the game, earning a lot of praise for his brilliant heroics. He was full of confidence after the performance and decided to celebrate it with a sweet little Snapchat video.
The Ivorian is quite active on Snapchat and loves sharing stuff on the platform. After the win over the Cityzens, Amad posted a video of him having a little dance in the Manchester City dressing room. He can be seen doing pulling off some really groovy moves with Andre Onana behind him, before Rasmus Hojlund and a support staff member also joins in.
While the staff member tries to shy away from the line of the camera, Hojlund is only too happy with imitating Amad’s maneuvers and joining in on the grooeve. The funny thing is the Danihs forward did this without having any idea about the song in which Amad and Onana were dancing too in the first place.
The song is really catchy dance music, which is a perfect fit for those moves, and Diallo is paying homage to his country’s artist by promoting this. The song being played in the background for this clip is ‘Fimbu’ by Ivorian musical group Team Paiya. It also features other Ivory Coast singers like Didi B, Ste Milano, Tam Sir and 3xDavs.
‘Fimbu’ is a French song, as it is the native speaking language of Ivory Coast. In Amad Diallo’s video, only a small excerpt from the song can be heard. Basically, it’s this big that can be heard which goes
‘Eh, fimbu, chicotte, décalé biama, eeh
Fimbu, chicotte, décalé biama, eeh
Fimbu, chicotte, décalé biama, eeh
Fimbu, chicotte, décalé biama, eeh
Aïe, aïe, aïe, aïe, aïe, aïe, aïe, aïe
Aïe, aïe, aïe, aïe, aïe, aïe, aïe, aïe
Aïe, aïe, aïe, aïe, aïe, aïe, aïe, aïe’
The ‘Aie, Aie, Aie’ bit which Amad, Onana and Hojlund are dancing to roughly translates to ‘Ouch, Ouch, Ouch’ and their dance step is inspired from the moves that can be seen in the popular music video of this song (released on 2 March, 2024), which has over 43 million views on YouTube! The Song ‘Fimbu’ is dembow music, which is described as a ‘fast-paced, Dominican dance music genre with a distinctive drum rhythm and hedonistic themes. Team Paiya has over 195,000 monthly listeners on Spotify.
Basically, this Snapchat clip was Diallo’s own way of paying homage to Team Paiya’s famous song and showing how much he loves grooving to it. Onana and Hojlund probably had zero idea what the song was about, but they danced along with their teammate to create the perfect positive vibes after the big win.
The Ivorian winger is earning a lot of criticism for celebrating the derby win like this, with claims that the Red Devils didn’t even move up from 13th place in the Premier League despite the victory. One fan claimed ‘Imagine Nani, Rooney and Ronaldo doing this in the dressing room and posting it online when they’re 13th in the league, Alex Ferguson would have them assassinated’.
Amad, however, is unlikely to care about the hate he gets for this video as it’s the ideal way of showing how bonded the dressing room is and his love for grooving to Ivorian songs outside the pitch.
