Sandro Tonali played a prominent role in helping Newcastle United storm into the 2024/25 Carabao Cup semifinals. He produced a memorable display by scoring a brace in their 3-1 win over Brentford to earn the adoration of the St. James Park’ faithful and prove himself as a big-game player.
The 24-year-old managed to sneak into the best positions to score two well-taken goals, helping his side book a place in the Carabao Cup semis. The two goals were, incidentally, his first ones in the 2024/25 season as the Italian midfielder continues his resurgence after returning to professional football following a ban for violating betting rules.
What Tonali did before the match also managed to get a lot of people talking on social media. The 24-year-old turned up to St. James Park well dressed in a club jacket, but also wearing a pair of smart eyeglasses. Tonali does not appear to have any eye power issues, and this is more a case of him liking to wear glasses as an additional style statement.
It turns out that the Newcastle United midfielder was actually wearing a Hugo Boss oval-shaped sunglasses before the Brentford clash. In particular, this is the Hugo Boss 1504 edition in a back material pattern. It’s a slick black sunglasses that has a round frame and straight arms. The sunglasses also have curved tips and gold-tone hard-ware and Hugo Boss has also promised that it is 100% plastic material.
The Hugo Boss 1504 edition was launched in 2022. The materials for the temple and front of the glasses are eco acetate, which is a plant-based material that is considered a more sustainable alternative to traditional acetate. Any sort of lens can be attached to the sunglasses depending on a person’s eye power levels. Tonali probably just attached a zero-power normal lens because he doesn’t have any issues with his eyesight.
Despite the glasses being launched a few years ago, the glasses are not at all cheap. It’s available for around £162 on Farfetchd, after a bit of discount, but there will be additional shipping charges. Fashion eyewear brand Occhialando are selling it for cheaper at around £103, with extra shipping costs potentially being applicable.
Tonali has never really spoken up about why he likes wearing glasses like these despite not really requiring them. The 24-year-old even wore a pair of slick sunglasses when being unveiled as a Newcastle United player in 2023. His sense of fashion might be inspired by his former girlfriend Juliette Pastore, who is a fashion designer with her own clothing label named Juliette.24 Club.
The Newcastle United midfielder has also earned comparions to the character of Clark Kent (Superman) because of how he looks wearing a sunglass. One user on Twitter praised his look by writing ‘Clark Kent off the pitch, on the pitch SUPERMAN,’ while another Newcastle United supporter claimed ‘Supermans on a hatty those glasses mean business’.
To his credit, Tonali does look a lot like the secret alter ego of Superman because of the shape of his sunglasses and similarities to his facial features to the popular character.
The 24-year-old showed off that he’s a man of many talents against Brentford. Not only can he be a clutch player on big occasions and come up with big goals, but he can look super cool outside the pitch thanks to his stylish Italian genes.
