Lionel Messi has earned the ‘greatest of all time’ (GOAT) status in football because of his sheer discipline and longetivity at the top level in his career. The Argentine superstar has been a success everywhere he’s played.
He became a symbol for FC Barcelona’s dominance for the period he was with the club, and even won trophies with Paris Saint-Germain and Inter Miami since leaving them. Messi ‘completed’ his trophy haul by winning the FIFA World Cup with Argentina in 2022 and has two Copa America titles with them too.
Off the pitch, Messi is a dedicated family man who loves spending time with his wife, close friends, and kids. He has no history of any bad addiction or any trouble with alcohol. With that being said, it looks like Leo has now found a new liking to occasionally drinking high-quality wine on occasions.
Ahead of the 2024 New Year Eve celebrations, the Inter Miami star posted a picture on his Instagram of him opening a wine bottle with two glasses beside it. This isn’t any ordinary wine, but a brand that is specifically dedicated to the Argentina captain.
Messi had spoken about his appreciation for wine and visiting vineyards last year, when he stated: “As for vineyards in particular, I admit that I love good wine and appreciate it, but I have absolutely no plans to take over a vineyard.”
It seems that instead of buying his own vineyard, he just partnered up with a major brand to start his own collection instead.
The GOAT 10 Lionel Messi collection is through a collaboration between the Inter Miami forward and the MV Winemakers. The MV Winemakers are a famous Switzerland-based winemaker that has been lauded for their high-quality wine production and won over 500 awards in renowned wine-tasting competitions.
In November 2024, Messi announced his partnership with the brand, “Some of you asked us about these unique wines we made with Mmwinemaker. Here you have a special limited edition: two premium wines with collectible bottles that you can’t miss. Have you tried them yet?”
So far, MV Winemakers have launched two specific wine bottles as part of their ‘Lionel Messi GOAT 10 collection’. They have described this unique range of collection as: “The Lionel Collection is more than just a series of wines. It is inspired by our commitment to capture the essence of time, dedication, and passion that characterize both football and the art of winemaking. Each bottle is a reflection of this fusion, aimed to provide memorable moments for those who enjoy it.”
Of the two wine bottles, there is the Lionel GOAT 10 – Sicilia Syrah IGT (Indicazione Geografica Tipica). This red wine was curated in 2022 and is created in Sicility, Italy. It has 14% alcohol content, and it’s flavor features the hint of blackberries and cherries mixed with notes of vanilla and spices. The brand recommends pairing this wine with Italian cuisine dishes like pasta or pizza as well as grilled meats (sausages, steak and ribs) as well as cured cheese (pecorino or parmasen).
As part of the Lionel Messi collection, the MV Winemakers have also launched the Lionel GOAT 10 – Puglia Primivito IGT. This also has a similar 14% alcohol percentage in its 750 ML bottle. This wine is created in the Puglia part of Italy and it’s flavor has a hint of ripe red fruits (cherries and plum) along with hints of spices. Similarly, this red wine also pairs well with grilled meats, cheese and Italian dishes.
The price of both these wine bottles is around £51.05 and they currently only exclusively available online on Lionelofficialwines, which has been created for this collection of wine. MV Winemakers have made these bottles available for worldwide shopping, but extra shipping costs and delivery times will vary depending on from where the orders are coming from.
Messi’s ex-teammate Pablo Zabaleta had claimed in 2017 that Lionel gifted them a big bottle of Malbec wine (with his name written on the bottle) after his wedding to Antonella.
Well, that’ll probably have to change now that he has his own quality brand, which can be enjoyed on special occasions by the Argentine sensation.
