FPL Exercise: Replacing Rashford before GW21

FPL, Marcus Rashford

I still remember the night Marcus Rashford scored a brace on his Manchester United debut against Europa League opponent FC Midtjylland, under the ‘Special One’. There was no looking back for the MBE since then.

He became almost synonymous with a Manchester United shirt, as new grasses replaced the old ones at Old Trafford. However, there were bad times too. But he managed to bounce back in style.

It was the now departed, Eric ten Hag’s first season, when the Dutchman exhibited before us — the vintage Marcus Rashford, who went on to score thirty goals in the 2022-23 cycle.

Only yesterday evening, Manchester United beat Arsenal at their home turf in the FA Cup third-round meeting. Last week, Ruben Amorim’s resistance army managed to hold the fort at Anfield. And in this while, the 27-year-old attacker was nowhere near the scene.

A deep dive into Rashford’s FPL profile will let us know that he hasn’t scored a point in the last five gameweeks. Why so? Because he hasn’t featured in any of these games.

This is beyond shocking but now we have a task cut out. Still, two million FPL managers have Rashford(£6.6m) in their team. Amidst strong transfer talks around his possible loan move in January itself, it’s recommended to get this out-of-favour forward transferred out.

Taking all aspects into consideration, these are the best options to replace him. Here we go!

Brennan Johnson (£6.4m)

Why? Because in all likelihood, you didn’t notice that Johnson has collected 88pts in the Fantasy Premier League 2024-25 so far, which is on par with popular fantasy pick Morgan Rogers

Recently, Ange shook things up a bit by snubbing seasoned warriors Son and Maddison. This makes Johnson an even more interesting pick from the Spurs attack. He has started the last three games and scored against Wolves to bag home 9pts in GW19.

Brennan has Leicester, Everton, Brentford, and Ipswich in the next gameweeks.

Alexis Mac Allister (£6.2m)

Registering 28pts in four matches is no mean feat for a holding midfielder, right? Mac Allister is in great form and can be a huge asset in FPL along with being a huge differential.

The world cup-winning Argentine has an ownership of just 1.7% and has a nice run of fixtures until GW26.
