FPL Latest: Dominic Solanke out for Weeks, Find the Best Replacement before GW23

Dominic Solanke, FPL, FPL Forwards

Ruud van Nistelrooy did a fantastic job while on an interim charge with his former club, Manchester United. However, the joy was short-lived as the fairytale reunion was cut short by the arrival of Ruben Amorim.

But Ruud has found it difficult to steer the same sort of turnaround at Leicester with the King Power Stadium becoming a happy hunting ground for most of the managers. The same goes with FPL managers too. A fixture against the PL winners of 2016, is now considered a plum one.

That’s why, the owners of Dominic Solanke(£7.5m) in FPL were eagerly waiting to salvage their season as the Spurs forward was slated to face Leicester City at home in gameweek 23. But the FPL gods had other plans.

He missed two consecutive games, against Arsenal and Everton. Now, he is reported to be ruled out for the next few weeks and expected to miss at least three matches.

With Spurs winning just a single game in the last ten and languishing at the 15th position in the table, Solanke’s prolonged absence will only complicate things for Ange. His other choice for the frontman position, Timo Werner is already nursing an injury.

Meanwhile, Postecoglou spoke about Solanke after Spurs plunged to the third successive loss — “It was just one of these things and he just sort of went to shoot on his own and twisted it, so we don’t think it’s serious, but probably a few weeks at this stage from what I’ve heard.”

Therefore, Solanke could be back before another plum fixture against Ipswich Town in GW26, a struggling side that conceded six against City last Sunday.

With Nicolas Jackson out of form and Matheus Cunha looking a pale shadow of his earlier self after coming back from the suspension, Solanke could have been a smart alternative among the FPL forwards. The England international has already scored seven goals and five assists, despite missing out on four games.

Ange’s first-choice for the no.9 position had a serious goal threat with an xG of 0.47 per 90’. His tally in FPL stands at 83 pts currently. With Solanke going out of the fray, let’s check out our best bet to replace him.

Jean-Philippe Mateta(£7.3m)

The French striker almost became a template pick during the fag end of last season, when Oliver Glasner’s men were constantly punching much higher than their weight. He seems to be back again after thumping a 29-point haul in the last three matches.

Palace has a superb run of fixtures now and Mateta could be a long-term hold now. Mateta has registered eight goals and an assist, resulting in 88 pts and is still a great differential with just around 5% owners having him on their list.
