Best Chip For GW24

FPL Guide: Which is the Best Chip for Gameweek 24 — Triple Captain or Assistant Manager?

Assistant Manager Chip, FPL, Triple Captain

It was hell of an UCL night yesterday and an Europa League showdown awaits today with PL teams Manchester United looking confirmed for the next round and Tottenham Hotspurs fancying their chances. FPL managers are also keeping a close watch of the action unfolding elsewhere, as it provides them with an overview of the latest injury scenarios in teams, transfer movements and a better sample size to assess assets before another gameweek.

However, the coming gameweek is going to be a massive one, as it’s going to be the first double gameweek of the Fantasy Premier League 2024-25. Merseyside clubs Everton and Liverpool will have double fixtures, with one being the first Merseyside Derby in the new year. Everton has just reunited with David Moyes, the veteran coach who guided them to European glory and has Liverpool and Leicester in their roster.

On the other hand, Arne Slot who has already made a name for himself in English football after being appointed in summer, will face Everton along with Bournemouth. As the winter transfer window prepares to shut shop, FPL managers have to close on their transfer targets for GW24 and most-importantly, the chip they are going to play this gameweek, if any.

The first wildcard has been played already, otherwise stripped off. Bench boost doesn’t seem to be the best option for this gameweek, even if you have six players from Liverpool and Everton. Meanwhile, we have discussed in detail when to use the bench boost chip in fantasy 2024/25.

You should hold your second wildcard for the time being, as the fixtures will make a huge turnaround before gameweek 29. Free hit will also have its time to unleash its superpowers later in the league. Therefore, your chip options get narrowed down to only two — triple captain and the new assistant manager chip, which has already created some stir in fantasy communities. Now, let’s navigate the scopes for each of them in terms of fantasy prospects in gameweek 24.

Triple Captain

Double gameweeks are always an excuse to use your triple captain chip. However, it doesn’t always work and can misfire badly. Like, it did with Dominic Solanke last season, leaving numerous FPL managers including me to bite the dust.

A regular fixture could also end up giving you huge dividends for having your money on an in-form asset with the triple captain chip. We floated the idea of making Alexander Isak triple captain in GW21 and as it shows, one could have roped in 48pts by completing the move. Isak(£9.5m), now a template option, smashed home 16pts against Wolves thanks to a brace and an assist alongside 3 bonus points.

However, in gameweek 24, there is more than one viable option for the triple captain chip. Liverpool has been exemplary under Slot this season, despite falling short to PSV in an away encounter last night with a second-string side. You can easily consider popular Liverpool assets like Salah(£13.7m), Arnold(£7.3m) or Gakpo(£7.6m). Even Ibrahima Konate(£5.2m) could be a wild differential option with solid prospects, especially after his assist against Ipswich last weekend.

Bournemouth appears to have gone through some mutation under Iraola and could be a tricky match for Liverpool. But their attacking assets can be opted for the triple captain armband.

Everton assets can also be an option for the triple captain chip. They look a different side with Moyes at the helm and have a plum fixture against Leicester. You can think of Pickford(£5.1m) or Ndiaye(£5.5m) and they could be huge differentials as triple captain choices.

Assistant Manager

This is something entirely new to the world of fantasy football. There’s no sample size at the moment. Last summer, FPL announced that it would introduce a ‘mystery chip’ in the game. During the fag end of last year, we came to know that it is going to be the all-new assistant manager chip. The prices of all the managers available under this chip have been revealed and the assistant manager chip will go live from GW24 itself.

Arne Slot(£1.5m) remains the favourite option for assistant manager, as Liverpool is likely to get the better of both Everton and Bournemouth. However, given the form Bournemouth is in at the moment, the Reds might find it difficult to snatch all-three points.

Also, both of their fixtures are away from home. This can be a reason for worry for the FPL managers choosing Slot. But Liverpool will have a plum fixture against Wolves at home in the following gameweek, which can bring in a smile to the teams backing Slot. However, a revamped Man City awaits them in GW26.

In a nutshell, Slot presents you with four matches in three gameweeks under the assistant manager chip and can earn you a lot of points if Pool can replicate the quality they have shown for the better part of the campaign. He remains among the costliest picks in the assistant manager category but may well justify his price-tag with some extra points.

In GW24, there is a differential choice for assistant manager too. You can also sign David Moyes(£0.5m). The points system would reward him with both hands if Everton manages to take away points from Salah and co. at Goodison Park. Meanwhile, I would expect them to get the better of Leicester City, who have just beaten Spurs. The contest would be close though as Leicester needs it more than anyone to remain in the English top flight.

Therefore, both of the chips have their own set of pros and cons. Hence, it boils down to your risk appetite, how you approach the game, your plans for the current season, and your journey so far in Fantasy Premier League 2024-25. For your information, I am planning to use the triple captain chip and bet on Salah’s wild form this season, which delves deeper into fantasy than football.

However, there’s still 13 gameweeks to go after GW24 and a lot to be played out with most of the teams holding their chips. But one thing is clear. The assistant manager chip along with the triple captain chip will cause disruptions to the mini-leagues as well as the global leaderboard. Make your moves wisely and hope to be on the right side of history, as a new chip makes its debut in the world of fantasy football.
