Joelinton may have been sidelined due to injury, but that didn’t stop him from soaking in Newcastle United’s triumph over Arsenal in the Carabao Cup semi-final.
Forced out of Eddie Howe’s plans with a knee issue, the Brazilian midfielder watched from the sidelines as his teammates secured a 2-0 victory, punching their ticket to the final.
The 28-year-old’s absence has been a blow for Newcastle, with Eddie Howe confirming that he will be out for “weeks, not months.” Speaking on the severity of the injury, Howe reassured fans: “We don’t think it’s a serious injury, but it will be enough to make him miss the next few league games.”
Joelinton has been a key figure for the Magpies this season, starting 23 of their 24 Premier League fixtures, and his recovery will be crucial as Newcastle navigate a tough run of fixtures against Manchester City, Nottingham Forest, and Liverpool.
Despite being unavailable for selection, Joelinton found his way to contribute to the celebrations.
As Anthony Gordon’s goal sent St. James’ Park into a frenzy, the midfielder was seen waving a black and white scarf above his head, fully immersed in the moment. But it was his outfit that truly caught fans’ attention.
Joelinton sported a piece of Newcastle history—the 1995-97 home kit, complete with the legendary Newcastle Brown Ale sponsor.
Adding to the nostalgia, he had Alan Shearer printed on the back, paying tribute to the club’s all-time top scorer. To complete the look, he paired the retro shirt with the club Adidas puffer jacket and a black and white scarf.

The sight of Joelinton in the classic kit couldn’t have come at a better time.
As part of their £30 million-per-season deal with Adidas, Newcastle announced last month, the official re-launch of the 1995-97 home shirt, marking 30 years since The Entertainers lit up English football.
Unlike previous replica versions, this edition will feature the original Adidas branding, staying true to the design that fans fell in love with nearly three decades ago.
This move by Adidas gained widespread appreciation from not just Newcastle fans but kit collectors around the world as well. It’s been a month now since the retro shirt made it’s comeback on Jan 6th. “Another classic comeback from Adidas UK,” said one fan.
Newcastle supporters loved that Joelinton came out to support the side and also sport a throwback look, with many embracing the midfielder’s love for the club.
“Big fan of Joelinton turning up to the game with his black and white scarf and the brown ale shirt on. “Some bloke,” said NUFC Blog while “Big Joe’s looking good in that Newcastle Brown Ale,” said one fan replying to Sky Sports reporter Keith Downie’s tweet.
A fan also commented on the two Brazilians at Newcastle getting the spirit of the club: “Said it many times big Joe and Bruno just get it.”
