The club Omar Marmoush played for 14 years, has the following tagline: “Community of Champions”. Wadi Degla, a club from Southern Cairo, saw Marmoush rise through its ranks before he crossed the Atlantic to join Wolfsberg in 2020.
Three years later, the 26-year-old who can shoot with both feet, joined Eintracht Frankfurt. Last month, he arrived in the Premier League, making him one of the most notable January transfer signings of FPL as well. Now, he is the new talk of the FPL town thanks to his first-half hat-trick against Newcastle United.
Manchester City didn’t only unearth hope by thumping Eddie Howe’s team with a 4-0 margin before the second leg UCL play-off against Real Madrid but also flashed a new weapon from their Arsenal — Omar Marmoush, another Egyptian star in the making. He was cunning enough while being blessed with speed, as he unleashed himself to slot the ball home with a smart lob and give Ederson an assist for the first goal.
The Egypt international completed his hat-trick within the first 33 minutes and that too in a span of 14 minutes. Scary, isn’t it? One must remember that he wasn’t playing as a no.9, as Erling Haaland had booked the place till the 2033/34 season. But the former Frankfurt man has the right skill set to ensure unmatched positioning, aided by blistering runs.
He seemed to be a finished product and ready for PL, as he finished with precision, power, and placement in double gameweek 25. This was Marmoush’s third start on the trot and while blanking on the earlier two occasions, Pep’s new card delivered 17pts in fantasy while dismantling the Newcastle defence.
But isn’t it too small a sample-size for a Manchester City forward, who doesn’t go by the name Erling Haaland? Before donning the blue and white kit, Marmoush smashed 20 goals and registered 14 assists in 26 games for Frankfurt this season.
Though he is playing as a no.10, just behind Haaland(£14.7m), as the now Atletico Madrid forward Julian Alvarez used to do till last summer, Marmoush(£7.1m) looks to be an exciting asset to have in Fantasy Premier League 2024-25. Let’s look at his underlying numbers from the statement performance against Newcastle.
Marmoush scored 3 goals from a total xG(Expected Goal) of 0.71, that means the latest City heart-throb has outperformed his xG by quite a distance — 4.22x. The former Wolfsburg striker, who recorded his first senior hat-trick on Saturday to make the Etihad roaring with his name, appears the new go-to man for Pep to salvage a dismal season.
He can be your scavenger-pick in FPL too, as Marmoush seems fixture-proof from an attacking perspective. Liverpool in gameweek 26 and Forest in gameweek 28 appear a bit tricky but gameweek 30 onwards, City embarks on a kind run of fixtures right till the end of the season. One must note that Marmoush has a game against Brighton at home in blank gameweek 29.
In case you are planning to use your second wildcard in gameweek 30 or 31, you may choose Everton’s Beto(£4.9m) for the time being and bring the Egyptian attacker later on. But remember, you can’t afford to miss keeping a tab on Omar Marmoush in fantasy football henceforth.
