Gossip: Mohamed Salah Could Have an Impact on Liverpool’s Potential Right-Back Signing

Liverpool face a pivotal summer with two of their biggest names—Mohamed Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold—nearing the end of their contracts.

Both these players have been instrumental to Liverpool’s success under Klopp and continue to be key players under new manager Arne Slot, but their uncertain futures leave Liverpool with difficult decisions to make.

Salah has been linked to Saudi Arabian clubs, and Alexander-Arnold’s name has been linked with the likes of Real Madrid. With both stars possibly departing, focus will be on Liverpool’s recruitment strategy for the summer transfer window.

One of the names frequently mentioned as a potential arrival is Bayer Leverkusen’s Jeremie Frimpong. The Dutch full-back has been outstanding under Xabi Alonso, playing a crucial role in Leverkusen’s Bundesliga triumph last season.

Known for his blistering pace and attacking output, Frimpong has 3 goals and 10 assists in 22 games this season, already matching his assist total from last year in 9 fewer games.

His performances have naturally attracted interest from multiple Premier League clubs, with both Manchester City and Liverpool in the race for the fullback.

However, Frimpong’s fit at Anfield remains a point of debate. Arne Slot, Liverpool’s new manager, favors a traditional right-back in a back-four system. Frimpong, on the other hand, thrives as a right wing-back in a 3-4-3 setup, where he has greater attacking freedom.

Reports suggest Slot is hesitant about pursuing Frimpong for the right-back role, given his defensive limitations in a flat backline. Leverkusen’s recent tactical adjustments show Frimpong’s new attacking role. With Nordi Mukiele arriving on loan from PSG, Frimpong has been pushed further forward, operating more as a winger than a full-back.

But fueling these transfer rumors is a video that shows Frimpong’s admiration for Mo Salah.

In this video Frimpong chooses Salah as the best player in the world at the moment from a comparison list that included Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, Kylian Mbappe, and Vinicius Junior.

His choice is backed by stats and shouldn’t be surprising at all. Salah, at 32, has racked up 29 goals and 20 assists in just 37 games for the Reds this season, putting him well above 1 goal contribution per game.

Although Frimpong has previously stated that Michael Essien was his childhood idol, Mohamed Salah might have become a more recent favorite—someone he admires and possibly studies for attacking inspiration.

Fans and media viewed Frimpong’s choice as his admiration for the Liverpool talisman. Could Frimpong slot into the right back position and create a devastating partnership with Salah if he stays too?

While traditionally deployed as a wing-back, Frimpong’s attacking instincts and speed make him a natural fit to link up with Salah.

Providing width, overlapping runs, and additional goal threat from the right flank are all on the card if Jeremie Frimpong does make the switch to Liverpool, and if Mo Salah signs a contract extension soon.

Salah’s dribbling, creativity, and finishing ability combined with Frimpong’s raw pace and attacking movement would give Liverpool a new dimension, especially under Slot who values energetic wide play.

With interest from multiple clubs, Liverpool’s chances of landing Frimpong may depend on factors beyond financial negotiations. The pull of the Premier League is strong, but so is the opportunity to play alongside an idol like Salah.

If Salah stays beyond this season, a right-sided partnership with Frimpong could be one of the most exciting in Europe.
