Matheus Cunha is Back in the FPL Template before Gameweek 27

You may buy him, you may sell him (now, at your own risk) but you can’t ignore him. Certainly not, after gameweek 26. Matheus Cunha is back and so is Wolves.

Vitor Pereira’s side has won two out of the last three, with the only loss coming against Liverpool, who look all but destined to win their second PL title. And guess what? Matheus Cunha has scored in each of these outings.

Cunha got suspended for breaking the specs of an Ipswich Town security personnel and had to miss the match against Forest in GW20. When Wolves arrived at St. James’ Park to play Newcastle in GW21, Cunha was there in the team bus as his ban was reduced from two games to one. But his red-hot form was reduced too; to an ordinary level.

It seemed that his re-introduction to FPL had gone wrong. The Brazilian blanked in three games on the trot, before breaking his jinx against Aston Villa in double gameweek 24. Now, when we weigh up forward options in fantasy ahead of gameweek 27, the 25-year-old forward continues his goal-scoring streak.

One must note and acknowledge that since GW19, Wolves had a nightmare of a fixture until now. Forest, Newcastle, Chelsea, Arsenal, Villa, Liverpool, and Bournemouth — all hell let loose. The last three matches were quite tricky — Villa at home and two away trips to Liverpool and Bournemouth. But Cunha sailed through the odds and scored a whopping 25pt-haul.

Wolves will now embark on a crazy run of fixtures — there’s no single red-mark in the FDR list apart from Man City(A) in gameweek 35. And after the Fulham game at home in gameweek 27, they have four successive green labels.

Fantasy Premier League 2024-25 is Matheus Cunha’s breakout season. He has already stacked up 141pts. What is more overwhelming, is his underlying stat. The Wolves no.9 has scored 13 goals from an xG(Expected Goal) of only 6.5. Therefore, a straight double and that’s huge, to say the least.

Cunha is on penalties and he is one of the first names on Pereira’s team list, whenever the pack of Wolves are ready to unleash themselves on the opponent. Moreover, he also has 4 assists in his kitty.

It would be safe to say that if your FPL train doesn’t have a bogey named Matheus Cunha, then it might not get derailed but may not reach the desired destination.

Cunha is currently priced at £6.9m and is owned by less than 15% of the FPL managers. Remember, he managed to score 12 goals and 7 assists in his last PL campaign and looks like a finished product now, with some of the biggest clubs in Europe expected to fight for his signature in the summer. Also, he does have a fixture and that too, a plum one against Southampton, in blank gameweek 29.
