Look: West Ham Boss Graham Potter Takes the Train Like a True Commoner

Graham Potter, West Ham United

In an era of football where opulence and excess are the norm, Graham Potter takes the train.

After West Ham’s win at the Emirates—where Arsenal’s title challenge suffered a serious blow—you might expect Potter to be heading home on the red carpet.

But no, he exuded humility. Simplicity.

And perhaps that has a lot to do with how Graham Potter came to be.

Potter took an unconventional path into management, earning a degree in Social Sciences and a master’s in Leadership & Emotional Intelligence. He has used creative methods like having players perform theatre, ballet, and singing as team-building exercises.

So maybe his humanness and eccentricity stem from these formative years.

There is not much information on the internet about where Graham Potter lives in London as he manages West Ham, but when he was the Brighton manager he used to live in Hove with his wife and three sons.

But if we were to make a guess, it would have to be somewhere around the Jubilee Underground line.

A random user on X tweeted about his surprise at finding Potter on the Jubilee line that a common Joe might use.

Others also mentioned their surprise in the connected tweets.

One user pointed out that it’s surprising that not many noticed him on the train.

The reason I think that not many noticed him is beacuse you don’t expect a top flight manager to take the train!

It’s actually rare to find people associated with top levels of football being so down to Earth and humble. Potter is certainly one of them!

His big break in football came when Chelsea wanted him at their helm.

But his reign at Stamford Bridge lasted just seven months.

After this, Potter decided to take a break from football management.

For 21 months he was away from football.

Until, a struggling West Ham came calling in January of 2025.

Potter was signed midway through this season to salvage of what remains.

And so far, he’s done decent.

Just as a seed needs water, sunlight, and patience to grow, Potter’s West Ham requires the same.

Everything clicked perfectly at the Emirates.

When asked how he wants to celebrate this victory, Potter simply said that he’ll have a glass of win and listen to some Taylor Swift songs.

So maybe that’s where he was heading off too. Or at least that’s what one user thought.

After Arsenal, Potter must turn his attention to Leicester City to prove this wasn’t just a one-off.

After all, West Ham hasn’t won back-to-back Premier League games since March of last year!

Whether he takes the Underground or arrives in a limo, one thing is certain—he’ll need results to prove his tact.
