Why Orange Matters to Rangers FC As Barry Ferguson Makes Viral Entrance

Barry Ferguson, Rangers

Barry Ferguson has made his return to Rangers after over a decade to take up their interim manager role. He’s been brought in as a stop-gap replacement of Philippe Clement. The 47-year-old will look to ensure Rangers ends the 2024/25 season in the best possible way, even though the Scottish Premiership seems out of their reach as they’re 12 points behind Celtic.

Ferguson, who made over 400 appearances for Rangers as a player and won five league titles with them, arrived at the club in style. The interim boss turned up on his first day driving an eye-catching orange pickup truck, much to the delight of the photographers.

Well, it turns out that he arrived at the Bhoys’ training ground in a Ford Ranger Pickup truck. The Ford Ranger Wildtrak model that he’s driving has a starting price range of around £48,000 in the UK. It’s a sturdy vehicle that can be easily driven in rough terrain, even though it only has seating capacity for two people plus extra luggage space in the back.

The interesting color of vehicle has also caught the attention of many fans. That is because the color Orange has a very deep history with Rangers FC. During the 19th and 20th century, Rangers FC had a strong connection with the Orange Order. This is an international Protestant fraternal order based out of Northern Ireland and had a connection with Rangers, whose supporters were those following the Protestant Christanity faith.

In fact, in the past, Rangers’ players and directors even used to attend events and functions held in Orange Lodges – which are staying places created by the Order. Because of their deep connections with the Orange Order, Rangers even had an unwritten rule not to sign a Roman Catholic from the 1930s to the 1970s.

Hence, the childhood Rangers fan Ferguson is trying to gain the respect of the older Rangers fans with his choice of color. As long as the 47-year-old can help Rangers end the campaign by winning games and potentially go deep into the UEFA Europa Laegue knockout stages, his interim stint could end up being a successful one.
