As the season enters its business end, the hush-hush and gossip around potential summer transfers start to grow.
There are trophies still to be won and plenty of present-day excitement, but just this once, let’s look over the horizon and predict—with some confidence—who the new recruits might be.
The club in focus today is Liverpool.
Liverpool is on course to win the Premier League, and when it comes to an already champion-like squad, the priority will likely be retention over acquisition.
Contract Renewals: The Big Three
Three key players have contracts expiring soon:
According to David Ornstein (a highly reliable football journalist), Van Dijk and Salah are expected to stay, while Trent could be on his way to Real Madrid.
With Van Dijk and Salah both over 30, staying put at Liverpool might be the logical choice.
But Trent is still young, and Madrid has been eyeing him for a while now. So, there’s a feeling he might make the move.
Left-Back Succession Plan
Speaking of full-backs, Liverpool might have a problem on the other side too.
Andy Robertson’s contract expires in the summer of 2026, so the club is already on the lookout for a long-term replacement.
Two names have been linked with the Reds:
Milos Kerkez (Bournemouth) – 21 years old, high potential
Antonee Robinson (Fulham) – 27 years old, more of a finished product
Kerkez, when asked about Liverpool’s interest by Nemzeti Sport, said:
“It wouldn’t look bad, that’s for sure, but it’s too early to talk about something like that. I have big goals with Bournemouth; we still have a lot of games to win, and that’s the most important thing right now.”
At just 21, Kerkez has been impressive in the Premier League, but if Liverpool prefers experience, Robinson could be the safer bet.
Darwin Núñez: Staying or Leaving?
Liverpool might also be open to offloading Darwin Núñez this summer.
According to Caught Offside, Atletico Madrid is in the market for a new striker, and Núñez is reportedly one of their targets.
Should this move happen, Liverpool has two replacements in mind:
Alexander Isak (Newcastle) – Reported by Mhardysport
João Pedro (Brighton) – Reported by Teamtalk
Both are talented, versatile forwards, and either could be a solid option for the Reds.
The Joshua Kimmich Situation
And finally, the Kimmich saga.
We’ve saved this for last because there’s so much clutter around it.
At 30 years old, Kimmich is one of the most in-demand free agents in world football. His contract at Bayern Munich expires this summer, and so far, no talks of an extension have taken place.
The list of interested clubs includes:
PSG
Manchester City
Real Madrid
Inter Milan
Barcelona
Liverpool
Liverpool will try their hand at negotiation, but they’re not alone in the race.
It’s still early days in the transfer window, but as summer approaches, these rumors will take shape and become something far more real!
