Trent Alexander-Arnold’s future at Liverpool remains clouded in uncertainty. The 26-year-old full-back has now moved into the last four months of his contract, which expires at the end of June (2025). Time is running out and tensions keep rising among fans.
Real Madrid continue to be strongly linked to the English right-back. Like they did with Kylian Mbappe last summer, they aspire to sign Alexander-Arnold on a free transfer in the 2025 summer window. The Spanish giants have reportedly promised him a £100 million signing bonus (over the course of his contract) if he joins them as a free agent.
Liverpool continue being coy on Alexander-Arnold’s future. Arne Slot has refused to give a clear update. However, some work might be getting done behind the scenes on this matter. As per Liverpool Echo, the Reds’ hierarchy are hopeful that they’ll be able to retain the services of the full-back for the remainder of his 20s.
This basically means that they’re aiming for at least a four-year contract extension. Alexander-Arnold is currently 26, meaning he’ll turn 30 in 2029. Hence, the Reds might be aiming to tie him up to a four or five-year deal to enjoy his services for the foreseeable future.
This is a logical decision considering how most full-backs tend to reach their peak in their late 20s. Liverpool are eager to ensure that Alexander-Arnold spends his best years with them to help the club win more major trophies.
With that being said, there is still plenty of confusion of Alexander-Arnold’s future. The Englishman insisted earlier in the 2024/25 season that he won’t talk about his contract extension in public as he regards that as a private matter.

Liverpool had offered him a five-year contract extension worth £78 million wages in January (2025), as per The Mirror. However, Trent has not shown any desire to accept that yet. The 26-year-old is enjoying a decent 2024/25 season under Arne Slot’s system, having 10 goal contributions in 36 games. He recently also set a record for becoming Liverpool’s youngest player to reach 250 Premier League appearances.
The entire matter regarding the 26-year-old contract extension is being kept hushed. All fans can hope is that Liverpool nail the final negotiations and convince the Englishman to stay at Anfield for many years to come.
