Leao’s Agent vs. Liverpool: A £145M Transfer Battle Royale

Liverpool, Rafael Leao

Liverpool are blessed to have one of the most explosive attacking forces in European football.

Mohamed Salah himself has over 50 goal contributions (30 goals, 22 assists), Cody Gakpo has 16 goals and five assists. Even Luis Diaz has scored 13 goals in all competitions.

Despite that, Arne Slot realizes that there is a need to evolve and improve his frontline to consistently challenge for top trophies. There are also question marks over his forwards’ future.

Mohamed Salah is yet to sign a new contract, with his deal expiring at the end of June, 2024. Even Diaz is being linked to move elsewhere.

It was reported by Spanish outlet Antena 2 earlier in the 2024/25 season that Diaz would prefer to join Barcelona in the 2025 summer window.

Barcelona reportedly see him as an attainable option to bolster their frontline next season. Liverpool seem to be looking at potential replacements.

As per TeamTalk, Liverpool are now considering a summer move for AC Milan winger Rafael Leao.

The Reds will give serious thoughts on a move for the Portuguese sensation if Diaz ends up leaving in the summer window.

There could be the issue of his price too. Leao reportedly has a £145 million release clause in his AC Milan contract, but the Rossoneri could sell him for around £82 million. Liverpool could be tangled up in an awkward situation with their pursuit of Leao.

It was reported by Calciomercato earlier in February (2025) that Leao’s agent Jorge Mendes wants him to join Barcelona next season. The Portuguese winger, however, has voiced his desire to play in the Premier League.

In an interview with Blunder in 2022, he stated: “The Premier League. I think every player wants to play in the Premier League because it’s a very competitive league. It has exciting football, great teams and a worldwide fan base.”

With Liverpool poised to be crowned the 2024/25 Premier League champions, Leao will probably find it irresistible to reject them. The 25-year-old is renowned for his blistering pace and trickery on the ball. He has 18 goal contributions (10 goals, eight assists) for AC Milan so far this season and can add more explosiveness to the Reds’ attack if he joins them.
