Premier League’s Best No. 2: Kelleher’s Liverpool Future in Doubt

Caoimhin Kelleher, Liverpool

Caoimhin Kelleher has earned a reputation as one of the best reserve goalkeepers, with many considering him the finest no.2 in the Premier League.

Whenever he stepped in for Alisson, he has been solid between the posts, and his performances impressed the Kop.

This season, he has made 17 appearances for Liverpool, delivering crucial clean sheets in victories over Manchester City and Real Madrid, but that isn’t enough for the 26-year-old.

With Giorgi Mamardashvili set to join the Reds this summer, Kelleher’s future at Anfield remains uncertain.

The Republic of Ireland international is expected to seek a move, given the potential reduced playing time.

While his contract runs until 2026, Liverpool cannot avoid losing someone of Kelleher’s potential on a free.

In his 23 Premier League appearances for Liverpool, Kelleher has recorded 70 saves, showcasing his shot-stopping ability.

And how can Liverpool fans forget his penalty in the EFL Cup final, sealing the trophy for the Reds in dramatic fashion? While he boasts prestigious winner’s medals, consistent first-choice game time has eluded him.

As per The Mirror, Liverpool has valued Kelleher between £20 million and  £40 million, with Chelsea, Newcastle, and Bournemouth among the top clubs to sign this summer.

For Chelsea, Enzo Maresca recently replaced Robert Sánchez with Filip Jörgensen as the No.1, meaning Tedd Boehly could be in the market for a new first-choice goalkeeper.

Meanwhile, both Newcastle and Bournemouth are looking to strengthen their goalkeeping options and Kelleher’s Premier League experience gives him an edge over other candidates.
