Slot’s Dutch Connection: Gaaei, Godts, and Hato Impress Liverpool Scouts

Jorrel Hato, Liverpool

Liverpool has always kept a close eye on the brightest young talents across Europe, and their latest scouting mission took them to Amsterdam.

Last weekend, Liverpool scouts were in attendance at Ajax’s 2-0 win over Go Ahead Eagles, with their main focus on Jorrel Hato—a name that has been linked with the Reds for quite some time.

At just 18 years old, Hato has already established himself as one of the most exciting young defenders in Europe. He was wanted by Jurgen Klopp back in 2023, but Ajax managed to hold on to their prized asset.

Now, even with Klopp having left Merseyside, the club is still keeping tabs on him—proving that their interest hasn’t faded.

Hato isn’t the only Ajax player Liverpool had eyes on, though.

The club’s scouts were also tracking Anton Gaaei (22) and Mika Godts (19), both of whom played a key role in Ajax’s victory. Gaaei and Godts each registered an assist, further making their case as ones to watch.

Liverpool’s continued presence at Ajax matches suggests they are serious about raiding the Dutch club in the future. A move for Hato won’t be easy, as Ajax will likely demand a hefty fee for a player they view as central to their future.

Hato, however, qualifies as a long-term investment for Liverpool’s defense reconstruction, which is expected to be a primary priority in the summer.

Given Trent Alexander-Arnold’s increased midfield movement, Gaaei, a Danish right-back, would be a strong contender for Liverpool.

Godts, a Belgian winger, is another intriguing offensive talent who might increase Liverpool’s depth in the wide areas.

Also, history suggests that Ajax to Premier League is a very good pipeline.

Luis Suárez, Christian Eriksen, Edwin van der Sar, Hakim Ziyech, and so many more. Ajax has also produced top-tier players who have shined in England.

So it makes sense why Liverpool is keen to look at the Ajax talent pool for the upcoming summer. Ajax will try to hold out – as they previously did – but if the price is right and the players want the transfer, there would be nothing the Amsterdam club could do to stop the transfers!
