Liverpool barely scraped past PSG with a 1-0 win at the Parc des Princes in the UEFA Champions League clash. However, their backline was made to work overtime and that caused vulnerability to be exposed in the left-back position.
Andy Robertson was tormented by Ousmane Dembele, struggling to keep up with his pace and being caught up in tight position at times. Robertson has shown signs of decline with his occasionally shaky performances this season, and that is why Liverpool’s links to a new left-back signing won’t go away.
The Reds have been strongly rumoured to have an interest in Fulham defender Antonee Robinson this season. Arne Slot’s side have been impressed with the USA international’s performances this season, witnessing him provide 10 assists in the top division. In comparison, Robertson has zero assists in the league. The Fulham man also helped eliminate Manchester United from the FA Cup with the coolest penalty possible in the shootout.
It is now being reported by CaughtOffside that Liverpool are preparing an opening offer to sign Robinson in the 2025 summer widow. They are ready to make a bid of around £29 million for the 27-year-old, who is also attracting interest from Chelsea.
However, the main issue is that this might not even be enough to get a deal done. That is because CaughtOffside also mentions that Fulham would demand well over £40 million to consider selling their left-back to a Premier League rival.
Interestingly, Robinson has teased a potential move to a major Premier League club earlier in the 2024/25 season. He was asked by Marca on being linked to the likes of Liverpool and Chlesea, to which he replied: “The fact that there is interest from other teams is great. Obviously, it all comes down to whether someone wants me enough to pay what Fulham would ask. So, if the club sees it as a good idea, I would leave.”
This is as good a ‘come-and-get-me’ plea as the Reds could hope for. The 27-year-old Fulham man has not only ousted Robertson in terms of assists this season, but also in other key metrics in the Premier League.
The USMNT star has made 67 tackles, 47 interceptions and won 146 duels in 27 league games, towering over Robertson (34 tackles, 18 interceptions, 47 duels won). The numbers don’t lie and only suggest that the Reds can risk breaking the bank for the reliable full-back.
